In yet another addition to the recent menace of customers finding insects in their food, a woman in Bengaluru found a cockroach in her paneer butter masala ordered at a restaurant in the city, a NewsFirstPrime report said.
The incident took place on January 4 at 3 pm when the woman- a lawyer- visited the "New Capitol Hotel" restaurant situated on Bengaluru's Raj Bhavan Road and ordered a meal, only to find a cockroach in the paneer butter masala.
Upon noticing the insect, the woman informed the local police authorities and food inspection units and took visuals of the kitchen at the restaurant on her phone. Reportedly, the woman was allegedly pushed and verbally abused while taking the visuals.
"Yesterday in a private hotel at Thimmaiah Circle, under the Vidhan Soudha police station limits, an advocate with her clerk to went to this hotel to have lunch. Advocate stays in Malleshwaram. They went around after 3pm. They have ordered paneer butter masala. While having the food, they found a cockroach in the paneer butter masala."
"In that background they have called to 112. Then the food inspector was also informed about this incident. The Inspector went to the hotel kitchen and have taken a video. While taking the video, restaurant workers have pushed the Inspector. Now the case has been registered. An investigation is going on," senior police officer Shekhar H. Tekkannavar said.
A case was registered against the restaurant under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and two restaurant authorities were named in the complaint.
This is one among many recent incidents in which customers have found insects in their food, albeit many have happened after orders have been placed on online delivery platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato.
In December, a Bengaluru woman found a cockroach in the fried rice that she had ordered from a restaurant on Zomato.
The woman named Harshitha shared her experience in a video on X (formerly Twitter) in which she revealed that the chicken fried rice was ordered from "Tapri by the corner" restaurant in the city and found the cockroach in the food.
The woman got a reply from Zomato, who asked her for her contact number or order ID to look into the issue.
