Bengaluru's metro system takes centre stage in a recent viral video on social media, revealing scenes reminiscent of Mumbai's infamous local trains during peak hours. The six-second clip captures the alarming reality of overcrowding within Bengaluru's public transportation network, highlighting the challenges faced by commuters on a daily basis.
The video, which has garnered significant attention since its upload, has ignited discussions and comparisons. "Bangalore guys used to laugh at Mumbai locals until they got their own public transport," the caption of the video read.
The video shows women trying to squeeze into compartments with a sizeable number still waiting outside the gates knowing they cannot take the train in front of them. Many still try as one commuter records the video.
The banter between Mumbai and Bengaluru residents about their respective public transport quality reveals a fundamental truth: citizens of both cities have yet to see significant improvements in public infrastructure despite the taxes they pay.

On the metro video, one commenter humorously notes, "Getting a taste of Vada Pao & Misal Pao in Bengaluru."
Some likened Bengaluru's metro to a "polished version of Mumbai local”. They added: “The bottom line is that public infra needs more expansion & is always short of public requirement. By the time the conceived projects get delivered, we are already behind the overall requirement & people are left wanting for more!”
Many other X users chimed in with their thoughts.
“The saddest part is, MUM-BLR people are busy making fun of each other for having poor quality of public transport. While both the cities (and many in India) have failed to elect a government which is focused on providing people facilities worth their taxes. Nothing funny here,” one user wrote.
“Bengaluru people laugh at themselves before laughing at others. Only a Bangalore resident will understand this,” wrote another.
“Bangalore traffic and now its Bangalore Metro! Commuting in Bangalore is nothing short of a punishment,” read another comment.
The short clip has been viewed over 6.5 lakh times on microblogging site X with numerous comments.
