Six months ago, Bengaluru-based Parantap Chowdhury made headlines for quitting his high paying Rs 54 lakh-per-year job as an Assistant Vice President at Square Yards to explore a new career path after an occupational burnout. He took a break and a few weeks later decided to write on LinkedIn about his experiences and guide others in similar situations.

From that came an idea of a consulting business – something that Chowdhury has been building since - teaching individuals and companies master the art of selling—all without paid advertisements.

The 32-year-old had led a 250+ member sales team and trained over 5,000 salespeople in his seven-year career at Square Yards and Byju’s. Looking to capitalise on this expertise, Chowdhury started his digital business model.

Charging Rs 6,000 per hour, Chowdhury has already signed several clients and closed last month with a Rs 1 lakh-plus monthly run rate, high-margin set up since he handles every aspect of the business alone.

Moneycontrol exclusively spoke to Chowdhury about his niche business model, growth strategy and future plans.

The Business Model

Chowdhury offers three key services: Sales coaching for individuals, coaching for companies and business consulting for companies under his 'Sales Accelerator Programme'. Despite the crowded coaching industry, Chowdhury stands out as one of the few focusing on sales coaching in India.

"I’m the only one in India offering 1:1 sales coaching live over six weeks, covering the foundational '0-to-1' of sales," he added, contrasting his personalised approach with group-focused programs like Hive School, which are cohort based and significantly more expensive.

His approach to finding clients is as unconventional as his career switch—he relies entirely on organic leads from LinkedIn and personal referrals for his niche business model. “I don’t run ads. Writing on LinkedIn is what drives my business,” he explained.

With 80% of his business coming from LinkedIn and the rest from referrals, Chowdhury plans to experiment with ads in the future but is not rushing the process. "I might try later to experiment, but I’m not keen on scaling just through ads. The aim is to grow the right way and do this long term,” he says.

On whether he is enjoying the new shift in his career, he says he genuinely likes it and one of the key reasons is having his own hours.

"The freedom to own my time was the only reason I left my corporate job. Now, I solve real problems—whether for myself or my clients—and every challenge feels like a new adventure," Chowdhury said.

The Clients

He is also particular about his clients and does not to work with clients or students who aren’t the right fit. “It means less business, but better reviews,” he shares.

His 1:1 coaching slots are getting filled at a rapid pace for November. “That’s the power of LinkedIn and consistent value addition,” he says.

Future Plans

For Chowdhury, entrepreneurship is not about rapid scaling but sustainable growth. He handles everything independently—marketing, content creation, and course design—ensuring minimal operating costs. "I’ve learned the importance of systems over goals," he said, quoting author James Clear.

While he admits that Bengaluru’s high cost of living has led him to dip into his savings, he remains confident that it will change in the next one year. "I have a seven-year financial runway. My focus is on working with the right clients, even if it means less business. Quality over quantity matters."

Chowdhury has no ambitions to build a unicorn or raise millions. His goal is straightforward: a remote, digital, and profitable business. He also values flexibility, which his new role provides. "I love the freedom to choose my hours. Seeing a client’s face light up during a coaching session is priceless."

Chowdhury's Corporate Life

Seven years in high-pressure roles at startups showed a grim picture to Chowdhury, originally from Kolkata. Despite his fast-paced success, his jobs consumed over 70 hours of his week, sometimes including his off days, leaving little room for personal growth or time with loved ones.

“I’ve seen first-hand what trying to grow too fast can do to you,” he says, adding there is no rush to scale the business.

"Six months ago, I quit a job that paid me handsomely but consumed my life. Today, I’ve built a business that gives me freedom, fulfillment, and steady progress," he said.

His LinkedIn post where he mentioned he quit his Rs 54 lakh job – three months after he quit –quickly went viral and resonated with many facing burnout or uncertainty in their careers.

"I would have earned Rs 9.81 lakh in the last 90 days had I stayed in my job, but I’ve lived more in these three months than in the three years before that," he had noted, adding “Money can buy most things, but not everything.”
