A day after announcing July 4 as the date for general elections in the United Kingdom, incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak received a message of support from wife Akshata Murty, who said she was with her husband as he and his Conservative Party look for a fresh term.
Murty shared a post on Instagram on Thursday, with two photos with her husband and captioned the post saying, "I’m with you, every step of the way."
Murty's post saw a lot of responses from users, some of whom offered their support to Sunak.
"I'm wishing Rishi Sunak the best of luck in the upcoming general elections in the UK. Let’s make him the PM again," one user wrote.
"Undoubtedly, your husband Rishi is the best PM the country has ever had. His multifarious skills in diplomacy, prudence, financial management, international relations and innovation are unmatched. The UK has never ever seen a more iconic, highly respected and competent PM than your husband, Rishi. I wish him every success and happiness in his and your family’s future," a second user wrote.
"And so am I," a third user wrote.
The poll will be the first time Sunak faces the public while in charge, after he was appointed leader of the largest party in parliament by Conservative MPs in October 2022. Sunak, in a Downing Street statement made in driving rain after he gathered his top ministers, said he had spoken to head of state King Charles III and requested the dissolution of parliament.
