Japanese carmaker, Toyota, recently teased the Indian market with its upcoming hatchback, the Glanza. Touted as a rebadged Baleno, the Glanza is the first child of Toyota and Suzuki’s recently formed partnership.
As per the collaboration, Toyota and Suzuki have agreed to share platforms and work together for developing EVs for the international market. While their projects are going on, the Glanza has been reported to be on its way to the Indian markets soon.
The Glanza sports Toyota’s badge and a new grille but carries the clear stance of the Baleno. The hatchback is expected to be launched in two variants, which are the mid-level and top trims from Toyota. While details about the interior are still under wraps, it is expected that the Glanza will only get aesthetically different interiors from the Baleno.
The car is expected to feature a touchscreen infotainment system which supports phone app connectivity, along with climate control. It could also get premium features like cruise control and automatic headlamps, though that would put it in a higher price segment than the Baleno.
While a essentially still a Baleno, it is expected that the Glanza will be powered by the new 1.2-litre DualJet petrol motor paired with Suzuki’s mild hybrid tech. If that is to be held, it will make 89 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque, like the Baleno, although, the Glanza could also receive a different state of tune for the engine.
If Toyota places the Glanza in a higher price bracket, it could also give the hatchback an automatic gearbox along with the five-speed manual gearbox currently driving the Baleno. The Glanza is expected to hit the showrooms by June, with an expected price tag of Rs 7.2 lakh to Rs 9.2 lakh (ex-showroom).
