Along with an extra day (leap year), this February, on the OTTs, has SRK and women-driven shows, from Sushmita Sen to Bhumi Pednekar, Adah Sharma to Indrani Mukerjea; Karan Johar-backed stories of love; and stories of hate and revenge.
The court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file its response to Mukerjea's plea.
Indrani Mukerjea, the former media baron who was recently granted bail in the case of her daughter Sheena Bora's alleged murder, has petitioned the Bombay High Court to have another case filed against her dismissed.
Asked if she still believes Sheena Bora is alive, Indrani said, I won't talk about it now. Whatever I have to say, I will say in court.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao said the trial is not going to be completed anytime soon.
Last month, Mukerjea had, in an 8-page application, sought the court to direct the CBI, the prosecution, to file an affidavit in response to her claims. She had also sought to know if the Central Bureau of Investigation had taken any steps to ascertain her claims that Sheena Bora was alive.
A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and PS Narasimha issued notice to the CBI and the state government on Mukerjea's appeal challenging the Bombay High Court order of November 16, 2021, denying her bail. “Issue notice. Returnable in two weeks,” the bench said
Sheena Bora, Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter from her first marriage, was allegedly strangled and her body disposed of in a forest area near Mumbai in 2012.
She cannot be treated in jail and requires better medical facilities and specialist doctors, Indrani's lawyer told the court.
The agency had sent Letters Rogatory to five countries seeking information about the financial transactions of INX group of companies.
The observation of the court came after Indrani, who appeared before the court through video-conferencing from the Byculla jail in Mumbai, where she is lodged in the Sheena Bora murder case, told Special CBI Judge Sunil Rana that she did not need a legal aid counsel as she had engaged a lawyer to represent her in the INX Media case.
Mukerjea, who was admitted in the state-run J J Hospital for the treatment of a suspected drug overdose, was brought back to the jail, Inspector General (Prisons) Rajvardhan Sinha told PTI.
Karti may be brought face-to-face with former media barons Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, both accused in the Sheena Bora murder case and currently lodged in a Mumbai jail.
Staging a protest at Valluvar Kottam in the city, around 200 Congress leaders raised slogans against the BJP, calling Karti’s arrest a “political witch-hunt”. The protesters held posters, accusing the BJP of trying to “divert attention from its scams”.
Special CBI Judge Sunil Rana allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate Indrani for two days after the agency sought three days custody and directed that she be brought before it on February 7.
Official sources said Karti has been called on January 11 and the investigating officer (IO) of the case will record his statement in the case.
"All I will say is, I shall continue to speak and write," he said in a statement here as CBI today launched searches at several places linked to the former finance minister and his son Karti over alleged favours granted in foreign investment clearance to a firm, INX Media, in 2007.
Clearing the decks for commencement of trial, a special CBI court today framed charges against Indrani Mukerjea, her husband Peter Mukerjea and former husband Sanjeev Khanna in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.
The special CBI court here today rejected the interim bail application of Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, for conducting post-death rituals of her father in Assam.
The agency said that probe in the case was still on and it is at a crucial stage, and hence releasing Peter on bail would be "prejudicial" and would hamper the case.
When the matter came up for hearing today, her lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani argued that the statement of eight doctors panel submitted on February 21-22, was as per the medical report of January and not her "subsequent deteriorating condition".
Peter, whose wife Indrani Mukerjea is the prime accused in the case, was arrested on November 19 for his alleged role in the murder conspiracy. He was in CBI custody for two weeks.
"Both, Peter and Indrani were unhappy with the relationship between Rahul and Sheena," Additional Solicitor General of India Anil Singh told the special CBI judge HS Mahajan, while opposing Peter's bail application.
"Peter was in touch with prime accused and his wife Indrani Mukerjea from the day of Sheena's murder (April 24, 2012) and till her body was disposed the next day," the CBI said in its reply on the bail application of Peter, who was arrested in the case on in November last year.
In his bail application, filed yesterday through his lawyer Kushal Mor, Peter had said that CBI had found no evidence to justify his arrest, though it had his custody for 11 days and even subjected him to psycho-analysis and polygraph tests.
