Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal has accused Arvind Kejriwal's personal assistant Bibhav Kumar of "slapping" and "kicking" her inside the Delhi chief minister's residence on May 13, News18 reported citing the FIR filed in the case.

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Kumar based on a formal complaint lodged by Swati Maliwal. In her complaint, Maliwal stated, “I tried calling Bibhav and Kejriwal both but I got no response. I went into the house of Kejriwal. I was told Kejriwal is inside the house and I was told to wait. Staff told me he is coming to meet me. Suddenly Bibhav came in the room. He started screaming and abusing me. Bibhav said, “tu kaise hamari baat nahi manegi"... Then he came close to me and slapped me 7-8 times."

She alleged that she tried to protect herself but Kumar pounced on her and brutally dragged her as well as pulled her shirt up. "My shirt buttons opened and my shirt flew up he hit my head on the centre table. Then he kicked me on my chest, stomach and pelvis area. I told him I am having my periods, but he continued to assault me," Swati said, adding that she’s having difficulty in walking after the assault and her abdomen is in pain.

Three days after the incident, the Delhi Police went to Swati's residence where they recorded her statement in connection with the alleged assault. Her statement was recorded by a two-member team of police.

The FIR has been registered under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323 of the IPC, among other sections, for offences including assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, word gesture or acts of intent to insult and assault. After lodging the complaint with Delhi police, Maliwal requested the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to not do politics over the incident.

Calling the incident "very bad", the former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief said that she gave her statement in this regard to the police.

"What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope that appropriate action will be taken. The last few days have been very difficult for me. I thank those who prayed for me. Those who tried to do character assassination, said that she was doing it on the instructions of the other party, may God keep them happy too," the AAP leader said.

"An important election is going on in the country, Swati Maliwal is not important, the issues of the country are important. There is a special request to BJP people to not do politics on this incident," she added.

Meanwhile, the NCW summoned Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar over Maliwal's allegations. A day after the incident, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh had said that the incident with Maliwal was "highly condemnable".
