On Saturday, Rohini Acharya, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, announced she was quitting politics and 'disowning' her family. Her post appeared just hours after the Mahagathbandhan managed to win only 35 of Bihar’s 243 seats, while the NDA swept 202.

A sudden exit with a pointed message

Rohini’s message on X was brief but carried more questions than answers.

“I am quitting politics and I am disowning my family,” she wrote. Then came the line that immediately sparked conversations in Patna’s political circles:

“This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do… and I am taking all the blame.”

There was no explanation about what the two had said or why she chose to mention them publicly.

Who she named, and why it matters

The two names she dropped aren’t unfamiliar to the RJD ecosystem.

Sanjay Yadav is a Rajya Sabha MP from the party and widely seen as one of Tejashwi Yadav’s most trusted aides. He has been part of the former deputy chief minister’s political strategy team for years.

Rameez, meanwhile, is described as Tejashwi’s old friend with roots in a political family in Uttar Pradesh. He keeps a low profile but is believed to be part of Tejashwi’s close circle.

Neither has reacted yet, and Rohini’s post doesn’t detail what they told her, leaving room for speculation inside the party.

The backdrop: A family already under strain

This isn’t the first time the Yadav household has seen internal turbulence this year.

In May, Lalu Prasad expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the RJD for six years. Tej Pratap was also removed from the family after a Facebook post showed him with a woman the caption described as his “partner”.

There were whispers that Rohini wasn’t fully in agreement with that decision, though she never said so publicly.
