Maithili Thakur secures debut win in Alinagar, becomes youngest MLA in Bihar

Popular singer-turned-BJP candidate Maithili Thakur (25) has won the Alinagar Assembly seat by 11,730 votes, as per figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Thakur, making her political debut, secured 84,915 votes and defeated RJD veteran Binod Mishra (63), who managed 73,185 votes.

Thakur told ANI that the win felt “like a dream” and added that she hopes to meet the expectations of the people. She said, “This will be my first term as an MLA, and I will do my best for my constituency… I will serve my people as their daughter.”

ECI numbers also showed that Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj candidate finished fourth in Alinagar with 2,275 votes, trailing independent candidate Saifuddin Ahmed, who received 2,803 votes.

In Tarapur, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary registered a sweeping victory, according to the latest ECI data. The BJP leader secured 1,22,480 votes, defeating RJD’s Arun Kumar, who received 76,637 votes. Jan Suraaj’s candidate, Santosh Kumar, suffered a setback here, managing just 3,898 votes.

Jailed JD(U) leader Anant Singh also delivered a decisive win from the Mokama constituency in Patna district, polling 91,416 votes, the ECI figures showed. He defeated RJD candidate Veena Devi — wife of don Surajbhan Singh — who ended with 63,210 votes. Jan Suraaj’s Priadarshi Piyush finished third with 19,365 votes.

The NDA has crossed the majority mark comfortably, securing 167 seats, according to the ECI’s latest tally. The Mahagathbandhan is far behind with 25 seats. Within the NDA, the BJP has emerged as the single largest party with 78 seats, followed by JD(U) with 66 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has also put up a strong show, winning 16 of the 29 seats it contested.

For the Mahagathbandhan, RJD has secured 20 seats so far, while the Congress has managed just three.
