'Where is the disrespect? There is naseehat': Pawan Khera on AI-generated video of PM Modi, his mother

"Show me one word, one gesture, anywhere where you see disrespect. It is the duty of the parents to educate their children," Khera said.

Congress leader Pawan Khera on Friday came out in defence of the AI-generated video shared by Bihar Congress that portrays a character resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his late mother Heeraben Modi. The video, which has gone viral, shows the mother figure scolding her son over his politics.

Rejecting the criticism, Khera said no disrespect was intended. “Where is the disrespect shown to his late mother? Show me one word, one gesture, anywhere where you see disrespect. It is the duty of the parents to educate their children. She is only educating her child, and if the child thinks that it is disrespectful towards him, it is his headache, not mine, not yours. Why does the BJP try to make an issue out of everything and try to generate fake sympathy?” he told ANI.

Khera added that the BJP was using the matter to play politics. “There is no fake sympathy for these things anymore. Mr Modi cannot do a ‘touch me not’ politics, he is in politics and he needs to take everything, even a sense of humour of the opposition properly and actually there is no humour in it, there is ‘naseehat’ in this,” he said.

This is not the first controversy involving references to the Prime Minister’s mother during Congress campaigns. Recently, during the party’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar’s Darbhanga, a man had disrupted the event and hurled abuses at PM Modi and his mother.

Meanwhile, Khera also took aim at the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Manipur, saying it was delayed and out of touch with the people’s grief. “Three hours after 864 days, too little too late and the menu of his visit is that there will be a dance performance there. People who were supposed to perform are saying that we cannot perform with tears in our eyes... Angry people are pulling the hoardings down. They are sad, angry and agitated,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will tour five states, Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal and Bihar, from September 13 to 15 to launch and inaugurate development projects worth Rs 71,850 crore.

In Aizawl, Mizoram, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects worth over ₹9,000 crore on Saturday morning, followed by a public address. Later that day in Manipur, Modi will lay the foundation for projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore in Churachandpur and inaugurate works of more than Rs 1,200 crore in Imphal, where he will also address gatherings.
