In Coimbatore, scrapped iron materials like old cycle chains, spark plugs and iron rods are being used to make sculptures of birds, which are being placed along the banks of Ukkadam Periyakulam tank bunds. The beautification work is being carried out under the Smart City projects.

Under the beautification drive, the civic body has also developed parks, restaurants and an 'I Love Coimbatore' selfie point, which are thronged by a large number of visitors. Models of vintage cars, gramophones, water pipes etc. made from old iron products and electronic waste collected from households and private companies in Coimbatore have also been put up on display.
These sculptures will soon be placed at the bank of the big pond.
Three sculptors from Chennai, Yesvendiran, Sarath Kumar and National Award-winning sculptor Ramkumar Kannadasan, are working together to create models of birds, including painted stork, snake bird and pelican.
Ramkumar is known for his seven wonder sculptures, which were made out of scrap materials and installed in Waste to Wonder Park in New Delhi.
The Coimbatore civic body officials said that these will be placed on the banks of the big pond in the next few days.
