'Mungerilal ke haseen sapne': BJP's Keshav Prasad Maurya mocks Akhilesh Yadav's 'monsoon offer'

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday rejected Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's monsoon offer as Mungerilal ke haseen sapne. A sinking ship and a dying party with an uncertain present and future he (Yadav) may see 'Mungerilal ke haseen sapne' but his dreams cannot be fulfilled, says Maurya.

This is not the first time that the BJP used the “Mungerilal” jibe at SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday rejected Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's "monsoon offer" as "Mungerilal ke haseen sapne". It is a reference to the 1989 TV show of the same name, whose lead character, Mungerilal, was a daydreamer.

In a post on X, Maurya said that the public and karyakartas will “wrap up the Monsoon Offer at 47” in 2027. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls will be held in 2027. Calling the Akhilesh-led party a “sinking ship”, Maurya also predicted a “2017-like defeat” in 2027. “In 2027, people and BJP workers will again bring ‘monsoon offer’ to 47. A sinking ship and a dying party with an uncertain present and future…he (Yadav) may see "Mungerilal ke haseen sapne" but his dreams cannot be fulfilled. We (BJP) will repeat 2017 in 2027 and ensure that the ‘Lotus’ (BJP symbol) government is formed again," he posted on X.

In the 2017 Assembly polls, the BJP won 312 out of 403 assembly seats in the state. Meanwhile, the SP then in power with Akhilesh Yadav as chief minister, won only 47 seats.

Maurya's social media post came a day after the former chief minister, in a post, made the ‘monsoon offer'.

“Monsoon offer: Sau lao, sarkar banao (bring 100 legislators, form the government,” Yadav wrote on X. Yadav’s comment was widely seen as an “offer” to the detractors of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

However, this is not the first time that the BJP used the “Mungerilal” jibe at the SP chief. Last year, an old hoarding calling Yadav the “future prime minister” of India has resurfaced outside the party's office in Lucknow. BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Minister Danish Azad Ansari took on SP with the "MungeriLal Ke Haseen Sapne" jibe.
