The 31-year-old post graduate trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered in one of Kolkata’s premier government medical colleges, reportedly had a significant amount of semen in her body, indicating gangrape. The information was given by her parents to the Calcutta High Court, which has ordered a CBI probe in the case.
The parents, in their petition, said that the postmortem report had clearly said that the cause of the death was strangulation of the neck and that there are clear signs of sexual assault, according to a report by NDTV.
"Petitioners state that the post-mortem report provided devastating details that confirmed their worst fears. Their daughter's body bore several injury marks, indicating a brutal and violent attack," said the petition, accessed by the publication.
The petition further added that bite marks were found on the victim's neck, her lips were injured and head showed signs of trauma. The petition said that the autopsy found 150 mg of semen in the victim's body, "a quantity suggesting involvement of more than one individual, further corroborated the suspicion of gang rape", the NDTV report added further.
Earlier today, a team of senior CBI officers reached Kolkata and started its probe into the rape and murder of the woman doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On August 13, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the probe from the Kolkata Police to the central agency.
The doctor's family has shared details of the distressing condition in which the woman's body was found. A relative of the family, who accompanied them to the hospital, said her legs were 90 degrees apart and revealed that the girl's father was allowed to go inside and see her body after waiting for three hours.
The semi-naked body of the woman was found on August 9 morning in the seminar hall of the government-run hospital in the West Bengal capital. One person, named Sanjoy Roy, was arrested the next day in this connection.
The Kolkata Police handed over Roy to the CBI after his medical tests were conducted at the state-run SSKM Hospital.
The post-mortem report of the girl has revealed that civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy violently assaulted the victim when she attempted to resist. The postgraduate trainee doctor endured such severe injuries that shards of glass from her broken spectacles penetrated her eyes, leading to extensive bleeding.
Meanwhile, amid anger over the murder across the entire country, there have been demands for resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also holding charge of police and healthcare portfolios.
On Wednesday, a number of BJP supporters held a protest march against the rape and murder of the woman doctor in Kolkata. They sought justice for the victim and her family members, and demanded exemplary punishment for the culprit.
