In order to address the issue of homelessness in the state, the Telangana government announced the Indiramma Housing Scheme 2025, a large-scale initiative designed to provide permanent housing for the underprivileged. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy officially launched the construction of Indiramma houses from Appakapalle village in Narayanpet mandal on Friday.
This marks the beginning of the first phase of the Indiramma Illu housing scheme, which aims to build 75,045 houses initially. This is part of a larger plan to construct 4,50,000 homes across the state within a year, providing affordable housing to those in need. Beneficiaries who have already been identified and received their allotment letters have been instructed by officials to commence construction by March 10.
With an allocation of Rs 22,000 crore, the government is set to transform the housing landscape by offering financial assistance and free land to eligible citizens. This scheme aims to provide housing assistance for thousands who have long struggled for a roof over their heads.
The initiative is particularly significant for landless individuals, Telangana movement activists and combatants who have remained homeless despite their contributions to the state. Under the first phase, the government plans to construct 4.5 lakh houses, each measuring at least 400 square feet and equipped with an RCC roof, kitchen and toilet. This structured approach ensures that beneficiaries receive not just shelter but a dignified and sustainable living space.
How will the scheme work?
To streamline the process, the Telangana State Housing Corporation Limited has introduced a digital tracking system to monitor construction progress and fund disbursement. The state government has also established a clear timeline for basement-level completion. By leveraging technology, the administration aims to accelerate the construction process, preventing financial bottlenecks that have plagued housing schemes in the past.
Why is Indiramma Housing Scheme important?
The fundamental goal of the Indiramma Housing Scheme is to reduce homelessness and provide affordable housingto those who cannot afford to buy property. It prioritises people living in rented accommodations or without any permanent home. This initiative aligns with Telangana’s broader development and welfare agenda, ensuring that housing security is not a privilege but a right.
The scheme also provides differentiated benefits. While general applicants receive Rs 5 lakh in financial aid, individuals from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) will receive Rs 6 lakh. Additionally, free land allotment will be granted to those without any property.
Who can apply?
To qualify, applicants must:
Be permanent residents of Telangana
Belong to the lower or middle-income categories
Not own a permanent house
Not be enrolled in any other housing project in the state
The application process is simple. Interested candidates can fill out the official form available on the government’s website.
