On NDA winning the Bihar elections, Congress MP Tariq Anwar says, "It is not appropriate that right before the elections, you start depositing money in people's accounts to influence them and get their votes... SIR had an impact too because 65 lakh votes were cut... Bihar is a poor state, and Rs 10,000 is a huge amount for them... In a way, people's votes were being bought... This practice is dangerous for democracy. Secondly, the Home Minister and Prime Minister raised the issue of infiltrators in Bihar... They tried to create an atmosphere of fear. All these things happened, and the Election Comission didn't say anything. The Election Comission didn't play their ole well."

PM Narendra Modi says: "Ganga flows through Bihar and reaches Bengal. Bihar has also paved the way for the BJP's victory in Bengal. I also congratulate the brothers and sisters of Bengal. Now, together with you, the BJP will uproot jungle raj from West Bengal as well."

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve on Friday criticised ally Congress, saying the party committed the same mistake in Bihar as it did in Maharashtra, where it did not favour having Uddhav Thackeray as the MVA's chief ministerial candidate in the 2024 assembly polls. He also alleged that the Congress seeks a large number of seats during seat-sharing talks with allies, but fails to win most of them, which ultimately impacts the overall performance of the alliance. The grand old party should have learnt from its mistakes committed in Maharashtra, Danve said. - PTI

The "none of the above" (NOTA) option saw a slight uptick in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections compared with 2020, though it remains far below the levels recorded in 2015, according to data from the Election Commission. Voting for the 243-seat Assembly was conducted in two phases on November 6 and 11. The NDA appeared poised for a dominant victory, leading in nearly 200 constituencies. The BJP emerged as the largest party, posting an impressive strike rate of about 95 per cent. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan - which includes the RJD, Congress, and three Left parties - struggled to cross the 35-seat mark. NOTA accounted for roughly 1.81 per cent of the total votes, amounting to 6,65,870 ballots. This is slightly higher than the 1.68 per cent recorded in 2020 but still lower than the 2.48 per cent registered in 2015.

BJP workers celebrated the victory of the party and the NDA in the Bihar assembly elections across Kerala on Friday. Jubilant workers organised celebrations at the state headquarters and district offices, where leaders distributed sweets and burst crackers. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar distributed sweets to leaders at the party office in Thiruvananthapuram and said that a similar feat should be achieved in the upcoming local body elections in Kerala. In a Facebook post, Chandrasekhar congratulated the people of Bihar, saying voters had once again supported the politics of performance put forward by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-NDA. He said the people had rejected the “jungle raj” politics of the Congress and RJD, characterised by dynasty rule and corruption. “Now it is Kerala’s turn,” he wrote.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has alleged that the counting in Bihar is "extremely slow" and that there is a "psychological game" being played out, speaking on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossing the majority mark. As the counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly elections began on Friday, the latest trends by the Election Commission showed that the NDA had made significant gains in Muslim-dominated seats across the state. Alinagar’s count is now entering the phase where margins naturally tighten and stretch as different booth clusters come in. After an early surge that pushed her lead beyond 8,900 votes, BJP’s Maithili Thakur now stands at 30,653 votes, leading RJD’s Binod Mishra (26,015 votes) by 4,638. Trends show that the ruling alliance is set to win nearly 200 seats in the 243-member assembly, with BJP leading in 91 seats and JD(U) ahead in 82. The voters of Bihar have given a fitting response to the Congress-led INDI alliance, rejecting its falsehoods and attempts to undermine the institutions of democracy, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Friday. The mandate reaffirmed the people’s trust in the NDA and the alliance’s collective leadership and commitment to stability and development, he said. "On behalf of @AIADMKOfficial, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi Avl, Hon’ble Home Minister @AmitShah Avl, and Hon’ble Chief Minister @NitishKumar Avl for their dedicated efforts in securing this victory," Palaniswami said in a post on ‘X.’ He exuded confidence that this strong mandate will further accelerate Bihar’s progress and public welfare. Bihar polls were held over two phases on November 6 and 11.

The Congress had contested on 61 seats. Out of this, it has managed to take a lead of just four seats. This translates into a strike rate of just 10 percent.

In a major setback for the Congress, Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar and CLP leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan were both trailing in their respective constituencies, Kutumba and Kadwa, as per the Election Commission's data. Kumar was lagging behind HAM (Secular) candidate Lalan Ram by 7,288 votes in Kutumba, while Khan trailed JD(U) contender Dulal Chandra Goswami by 23,785 votes in Kadwa. Overall, the Congress was ahead in only five of the 61 seats it contested in the Bihar Assembly elections. The candidates leading included Surendra Prasad from Valmiki Nagar, Mohd. Qamrul Hoda from Kishanganj, Manohar Prasad Singh from Manihari, Amita Bushan from Begusarai, Anil Kumar from Bikram, and Mangal Ram from Chenari.

The game that SIR played in Bihar will no longer be possible in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, or anywhere else, because this electoral conspiracy has now been exposed. As the trends solidify into results, one thing is clear, Chirag Paswan is the ultimate winner in the Bihar polls. His party contested 29 seats and is leading on around 21-22 seats. This translates into a strike rate of nearly 73 percent.  As per the Election Commission of India’s  data, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is leading on seats such as Govindganj, Kasba among others.

The Trinamool Congress on Friday asserted that the Bihar election results-where the BJP-led NDA is headed for a landslide victory-will have no bearing on next year's West Bengal Assembly polls.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh wrote on X that Mamata Banerjee will return to power for a fourth term with over 250 seats, insisting that Bengal's political dynamics are entirely different.

Ghosh argued that the Bihar results once again demonstrate the Congress's inability to counter the BJP effectively.

"That is Bihar's equation. It has no connection with Bengal," he said. "In Bengal, the key factors are development, unity, harmony, rights, and self-respect."

He added that there will be keen interest in how the BJP-JD(U) relationship evolves after the NDA's massive lead in Bihar, where the alliance was ahead in more than 180 of 243 seats by noon.

Ghosh also alleged that the BJP and the Election Commission may attempt "conspiracies" in West Bengal around SIR and related issues, warning of "misuse of agencies and central power." He said the TMC will counter such moves through public outreach and grassroots mobilisation.

Taking a jab at Bengal's BJP unit, he said leaders trying to "threaten" the state by pointing to Bihar's results are "wasting their time."

"You cannot win the love of Bengal's people by attacking their rights and self-respect," he asserted.

Ghosh concluded by claiming that several states, including Bihar, follow Mamata Banerjee's development model:

"Here-whether winter, summer, or monsoon-Mamata Banerjee remains the people's trust."

As the NDA maintains its lead in Bihar and surpasses the majority mark, AAP MP Sanjay Singh reiterates his allegation that the election "has been hijacked" and "holds no meaning."

He claims that Election Commission officials had effectively "already declared" a victory for the NDA, saying, "Gyanesh Kumar has already given the winning certificate to Modi ji for Bihar."

Singh further alleges large-scale discrepancies in the electoral rolls:

- 80 lakh deleted votes

- 5 lakh duplicate votes

- 1 lakh unknown entries

He adds, "We should congratulate NDA, Modi ji, and Gyanesh Kumar, that they have won the Bihar elections with the blessings of Gyanesh Kumar."

Referring to Delhi elections, he claims that 40,000 votes were deleted in Arvind Kejriwal's constituency, questioning the integrity of the process.

"If people from other states are voting here, then what kind of election is this? These results were already decided-we were just waiting for the announcement today," he says.

The NDA's strong show in 2025 brings back memories of the 2010 elections, when Bihar's political landscape shifted dramatically. The "Miracle of 2010" saw the NDA sweep 206 seats-115 for JD(U) and 91 for the BJP-by tapping into public aspirations and promising development and stability. Fifteen years later, the echoes of that landmark victory are evident once again, as the Modi-Nitish jugalbandhi-the powerful partnership between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-demonstrates its enduring effectiveness.

Tej Pratap Yadav, founder of the Janshakti Janata Dal and candidate from Mahua, has dropped to fourth place in the initial trends as counting begins for the Bihar Assembly Elections.

As per the Election Commission data, LJP (Ram Vilas) candidate Sanjay Kumar Singh is leading with 12,897 votes, followed by RJD's Mukesh Kumar Raushan with 8,794 votes. AIMIM's Amit Kumar holds third position with 4,569 votes, while Tej Pratap Yadav trails with 2,121 votes.

Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav is trailing in Chapra. BJP's Chhoti Kumari is ahead in this constituency.

NDA leads in 94 of the 123 seats where vote share rose more than the state average

As trends from the Bihar Assembly elections begin to firm up, the NDA is emerging with commanding leads across the state, while the Mahagathbandhan is falling far behind. A striking absence in the results is Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj, which, despite positioning itself as a force for political transformation, has not managed to register any meaningful presence. Early indicators show the ruling NDA sweeping the contest, leaving the opposition alliance struggling to keep pace. Interestingly, Kishore had said during various media interactions that he will quit politics in case JDU wins more than 25 seats. It should be noted that JDU is currently leading on 75 constituencies.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate Samrat Chaudhary is leading from the Tarapur constituency assembly with a margin of over 2,600 votes as of 10.30 am, according to the data on the Election Commission of India's official website. As of 10:30 am am, Chaudhary has received 8,647 votes, while the RJD candidate, Arun Kumar, has received 5,957 votes. BJP candidate and folk singer Maithili Thakur, a young face in the fray, is also leading from the Alinagar assembly constituency, with a margin of over 4,000 votes. As of 10:30 am am, Thakur garnered 11,082 votes; however, only three rounds of vote counting have been completed out of 32. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha, who was earlier trailing from the Lakhisarai seat, is now leading from the seat with a slight margin of 788 votes. As of 10.30 am, he has polled 6,151 votes.

As JDU emerges as single-largest party in Bihar, JDU takes to X and declares, 'phir aa rahi hai Nitish ji ki sarkaar.'

As trends show NDA on course of winning comfortable majority, Congress took a jab at the Election Commission Chief Gyanesh Kumar. Addressing media in New Delhi, Congress leader Pawan Bansal said that the trends was Election Commission vs people of Bihar showdown.

As initial counting trends in the Bihar Assembly elections indicated that the ruling NDA had comfortably crossed the halfway mark of 122 seats, Congress leader Udit Raj took a dig by suggesting that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was "moving towards success."

In a post on X, Udit Raj wrote, "SIR is moving towards victory (SIR jeet ki taraf badh rahi hai)." This Bihar poll marks the first assembly election in two decades to be conducted after a Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls.

In a pointed remark aimed subtly at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, senior JD(U) leader Ashok Choudhary cautioned that Bihar's political landscape is veering into a "dangerous mix of immaturity and raw desperation," a combination he called increasingly "lethal."

Choudhary made the comments as vote counting for the Bihar assembly elections progressed, with early trends placing the NDA ahead in 51 seats.

Speaking to PTI VIDEO in Patna, he expressed concern that some leaders "keep resetting policies without foresight or ideological grounding," warning that this reflected a worrying lack of political maturity.

"The NDA is winning with a two-thirds majority. We believe in humility even in victory. But some leaders speak without maturity or consistency. This is what worries us," he said, in a remark seen as directed at Yadav.

He added that once the initial wave of popularity fades, "these candidates will do whatever they want," underscoring what he described as political immaturity.

Choudhary further cautioned that a growing desperation to seize power at any cost was beginning to overshadow democratic norms and institutional discipline.

"This combination of immaturity and desperation is becoming lethal; it is unhealthy for democracy," he said.

Responding to social media claims that district officials could influence outcomes in tightly contested seats, Choudhary dismissed the allegations.

As the Janata Dal (United) awaits the Bihar Assembly election verdict, a poster hailing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as a "tiger who still has strength (Tiger Abhi Zinda Hai)" has been put up outside his residence at 1 Anne Marg in Patna.

The poster also thanks people from all religious communities for supporting the JD(U) during the elections. It reflects party workers' hopes of seeing Nitish Kumar return as chief minister for a fourth term. Another poster in Patna depicts him as a "protector" of all communities, including the marginalised.

Brothers Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav-now contesting from different parties-are both ahead in their respective seats. Early trends also indicate leads for several prominent candidates, including JD(U)'s Anant Singh, BJP's Renu Devi, Nitin Nabin, Maithili Thakur, Prem Kumar, and Nitish Mishra.

In the seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP had earlier assumed the "big brother" role, contesting an equal number of seats (101) alongside the JD(U). So far, the BJP's performance suggests that this strategy may be paying off, as it is maintaining a higher strike rate than Nitish Kumar's party.

JD(U)'s Anant Kumar Singh is leading in Mokama by 2,716 votes after the first round of counting, while RJD's Veena Devi is trailing.

Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav is leading from Chhapra, shows CNN-News18 data. Yadav was very vocal about his anti-Ram Mandir stance during the campaign days.

Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh says, "From what I observed during the campaign, Bihar is ready for change. It's too early to react to the initial trends, but I am confident the results will favour the Mahagathbandhan…"

A total of 164 (67%) out of 243 constituencies are red alert constituencies. Red alert constituencies are those where three or more contesting candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. In the Bihar assembly elections 2020, 217 (89%) constituencies had three or more candidates with declared criminal cases.

A total of 165 candidates have declared cases of attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) and (BNS Section 109).

A total of 52 candidates have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section 302, 303) and (BNS Section 103(1)).

A total of 94 candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women. Out of these, 5 candidates have declared cases related to rape (IPC Section 375 and 376).

Among the major parties, 100 (43%) out of 231 candidates analysed from Jan Suraaj Party, 28 (16%) out of 180 from BSP, 69 (49%) out of 140 from RJD, 49 (49%) out of 101 from BJP, 26 (26%) out of 101 from JD(U), 21 (25%) out of 83 from AAP, 32 (53%) out of 60 from INC, 14 (50%) out of 28 from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), 13 (65%) out of 20 from CPI(ML)(L), 6 (67%) out of 9 from CPI, and 4 (100%) out of 4 from CPI(M) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

Among the major parties, 108 (47%) out of 231 candidates analysed from Jan Suraaj Party, 35 (19%) out of 180 from BSP, 91 (65%) out of 140 from RJD, 61 (60%) out of 101 from BJP, 36 (36%) out of 101 from JD(U), 24 (29%) out of 83 from AAP, 40 (67%) out of 60 from INC, 16 (57%) out of 28 from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), 18 (90%) out of 20 from CPI(ML)(L), 7 (78%) out of 9 from CPI, and 4 (100%) out of 4 from CPI(M) have declared criminal cases against themselves.

A total of 695 (27%) candidates have declared serious criminal cases. In 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, 915 (25%) candidates had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

Out of the 2,600 candidates analysed in Bihar Assembly elections 2025, 838 (32%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. In 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, out of 3,722 candidates analysed, 1,201 (32%) had declared criminal cases against themselves.

While the polling figures set a new benchmark, the latest analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) highlights a striking disparity in the wealth of contesting candidates.

Now, the electronic voting machines have been opened and the votes are being counted. This means more definitive leads will start coming in.

The Barh Assembly seat in Patna district, often called the "Mini Chittorgarh," has mostly elected Rajput candidates since 1980. This time, BJP has replaced its four-time MLA Gyanendra Singh Gyanu with Dr. Siyaram Singh. On the other hand, RJD has fielded strongman Karnveer Singh alias Lallu Mukhiya as its candidate.

From Jokihat, RJD has fielded Shahnawaz Alam, son of strongman Taslimuddin. His opponent is his elder brother, Sarfaraz Alam, who is contesting on a Jan Suraaj ticket. In 2020, Sarfaraz contested on an RJD ticket, while Shahnawaz ran on an AIMIM ticket and won.

The RJD has fielded Shivani Shukla, daughter of strongman Munna Shukla, from the Lalganj seat. Both Munna Shukla and his wife Anu Shukla have previously won from this constituency. Shivani faces BJP's sitting MLA Sanjay Singh in a high-profile contest.

From Warisaliganj, Anita Devi, wife of strongman Ashok Mahto, is contesting the polls. Ashok Mahto's nephew, Pradeep Mahto, had earlier won the seat in 2005 and 2010. BJP's candidate, Aruna Devi, is the wife of 1990s-era strongman Akhilesh Singh and has won the seat four times.

JD(U) has fielded Chetan Anand, son of strongman Anand Mohan, from Nabinagar. The Mahagathbandhan's candidate is Amod Chandravanshi. Chetan Anand won from the Sheohar seat in 2020 on an RJD ticket but switched allegiance to JD(U) when Nitish Kumar rejoined the NDA in 2024. His mother, Lovely Anand, is the JD(U) MP from Sheohar, and his father, Anand Mohan, has been elected as an MP twice from this region.

Tej Pratap Yadav is trailing from Mahua. At present, the postal ballot counting is underway and counting of EVMs (electronic voting machines) will start thereafter at 8.30 AM.

Nawada witnesses a clash between two Bahubali families. Four-time MLA Kaushal Yadav is contesting on an RJD ticket, while Rajballabh Yadav's wife Vibha Devi represents JD(U). Interestingly, Nawada voters have elected a different party in every election over the past four terms.

In Raghunathpur, Siwan's former RJD strongman Shahabuddin's son Osama is contesting the polls. JD(U) has fielded Vikas Kumar Singh, also known as Jishu Singh, against him. Osama benefits from sympathy votes following his father's legacy. Moreover, attacks against him during rallies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have consolidated Muslim and Yadav votes in his favor.

From Tarari, the BJP has fielded Prashant Vishal, son of strongman Sunil Pandey, against Mahagathbandhan's CPI-ML candidate Madan Chandravanshi. Prashant Vishal had won the last by-election, but Tarari has traditionally been considered a CPI-ML stronghold.

As opposed to the exit polls, the new entry in Bihar politics, Jan Suraaj party is leading on two seats. Most of the exit polls had predicted a blank for the newcomer.

The Rupauli constituency continues to revolve around two key figures - Beema Bharti and Shankar Singh - for the past two decades. Beema Bharti has won five times since 2000, contesting as an Independent, and later on RJD and JD(U) tickets. This time, she is contesting on an RJD ticket, while Shankar Singh is running as an Independent candidate.

JD(U) candidate Manoranjan Singh Dhoomal, contesting from Ekma, reportedly faces more than 150 cases across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Mumbai, and Jharkhand - including four for murder and one for attempted murder. However, in his affidavit, he disclosed only nine criminal cases. The RJD has fielded sitting MLA Shrikant Yadav, who defeated JD(U)'s Sita Devi in 2020.

Hulas Pandey is best known for being the main accused in the murder case of Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Mukhiya, though he was later acquitted. He is contesting the Brahmapur seat on an LJP (Ram Vilas) ticket. His opponent is two-time RJD MLA Shambhu Nath Yadav, who enjoys strong caste-based support. Yadav voters make up about 26% of the electorate here. Along with Muslim and Dalit voters, this 40% vote bank favors the RJD. Hulas Pandey, on the other hand, has backing from around 14% Brahmin and Bhumihar voters. However, due to his past association with the Brahmeshwar Mukhiya case, upper-caste votes are not consolidating in his favor.

The Mahagathbandhan has traditionally dominated the Manjhi seat, which CPM's Satyendra Yadav won in 2020. This time, JD(U) has fielded Randhir Singh, son of strongman Prabhunath Singh, while the Mahagathbandhan has retained Satyendra Yadav as its candidate. Anti-incumbency is being seen as the biggest factor working against Satyendra Yadav. Rajputs, the largest community in this constituency, form Randhir Singh's core voter base. JD(U)'s Kurmi voters are also backing him, while Bhumihars and Brahmins appear to be leaning in his favor. On the other hand, Muslims and Yadavs remain the mainstay of Satyendra Yadav's support.

Anant Singh, Maithli Thakur and Tejashwi Yadav are leading in postal ballot trends.

From Kuchaikote, strongman MLA Amarendra Kumar alias Pappu Pandey is contesting for the sixth time on a JD(U) ticket. The Mahagathbandhan has fielded a new face - Dubai-based businessman Harinarayan Singh Kushwaha - from the Congress. Nitish Kumar's welfare schemes have had a positive impact in favor of Amarendra Kumar, despite him being named in 14 cases, including triple murder, firing, extortion, and loot. He is seen as Nitish's loyal soldier. Meanwhile, Harinarayan Singh is new to the political arena and is drawing support from Muslim and Yadav voters, but backward caste support remains limited for him.

In Danapur, strongman Reetlal Yadav of the RJD faces senior BJP leader Ramkripal Yadav. Reetlal is currently in jail in connection with a kidnapping case, and his image in urban areas is not very positive. Initially seen as trailing, he has now turned the contest into a close fight. His daughter, a Class 11 student, has stepped into the campaign in his absence, generating a wave of sympathy votes. Lalu Prasad Yadav himself held a roadshow here, helping consolidate Yadav and Muslim votes. Danapur has around 3.75 lakh voters - approximately 80,000 Yadavs, 60,000 upper castes, 85,000 extremely backward classes, 40,000 Muslims, and 55,000 Dalits.

The Mokama seat in Patna came into the spotlight after the murder of Dularchand Yadav. Here, Anant Singh is contesting on a JD(U) ticket, while Veena Devi is the RJD candidate. Mokama is a Bhumihar-dominated constituency. Anant Singh enjoys a "Robin Hood" image in the region, drawing support from people across communities. Following Dularchand Yadav's murder, Bhumihar voters appear to have consolidated behind Anant Singh. However, if Veena Devi manages to secure support from both backward classes and a section of the Bhumihar community, the contest could turn into a tough fight for Anant Singh.
