Addressing the media ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Mod recounting five major milestones that marked a decisive moment in country's economic and security paradigm, urged the Opposition to ensure a smooth and productive legislative session.
Starting with India's response during Operation Sindoor to the recent space achievements, the Prime Minister said the world has truly seen India's prowess in multiple fields. "India's response to Pahalgam attack-- Operation Sindoor marked a pivotal moment in the country's response to terrorism," remarked the PM.
PM Modi called the monsoon session a proud moment for the nation, highlighting India’s remarkable achievements on the global stage. He cited astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s historic step onto the International Space Station as a symbol of India’s advancing space capabilities and a source of national pride.
He also said the government expects a productive session with many legislative hallmarks when it comes to important legislations. Underlining the importance of monsoon in India's economic trajectory, the PM said the monsoon plays a pivotal role in country's economic and financial setup.
The much-anticipated Monsoon Session of Parliament is beginning today. In a surprise move, the government on Sunday, indicated its willingness to discuss issues linked with the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of poll-bound Bihar’s electoral rolls -- all key demands of the Opposition – during Parliament’s monsoon session beginning today but without committing to any timeline for these debates.
As per the official agenda, the Parliament will table 15 bills throughout the session, including discussing the Demands for Grants (Manipur) for the year 2025-26 and introduction, consideration and passing/return of the related Appropriation Bill. Additionally, a resolution seeking the approval of extension of President's rule in Manipur will also be tabled in the session.
The government's top agenda item is the Income-Tax Bill, 2025, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Budget Session of Parliameno on February 13 before being referred to a select committee led by BJP MP Baijayant “Jay” Panda.
Among the other bills listed for consideration is the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which aims to align the state GST law with the central legislation. Another key bill is the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, which seeks to promote ease of doing business and improve regulatory compliance.
