Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has retained key portfolios, including home and finance, as he allocated responsibilities to his Council of Ministers on Sunday, just three days after being sworn in.
Saini will oversee a total of 12 portfolios, which also include planning, excise and taxation, urban planning, public relations, language and culture, criminal investigation, law and legislative affairs, and housing for all.
Anil Vij, who previously held the home portfolio under former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has been given additional responsibilities, now overseeing the Labour department alongside energy and transport.
The health department, formerly managed by Vij, has been assigned to Arti Singh Rao, who will also be responsible for medical education, research, and the Ayush departments, according to a late-night government order.
Saini, aged 54, took his oath as chief minister in Panchkula on October 17, attended by prominent NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a large crowd from across the state. Alongside Saini, 13 MLAs, including two women, were sworn in.
Other portfolio assignments include industries and commerce, environment, and wildlife, which have been allocated to Rao Narbir Singh. Mahipal Dhanda will manage the school education department, while Vipul Goel has been tasked with revenue, disaster management, urban local bodies, and civil aviation.
Arvind Sharma will handle jails and cooperation, while Shyam Singh Rana will oversee agriculture and farmers' welfare. Ranbir Gangwa is responsible for public health engineering, and Krishan Kumar Bedi will manage social justice and empowerment, including welfare for SCs and BCs. Shruti Choudhry will take care of women and child development.
Additional ministerial assignments include Krishan Lal Panwar, who will oversee development, panchayats, mines, and geology. Minister of State (Independent Charge) Rajesh Nagar has been allocated food, civil supplies, and consumer affairs, while Minister of State Gaurav Gautam (Independent Charge) will manage youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and sports.
The Governor of Haryana allocated these portfolios on the recommendation of the chief minister, as per the government order. The BJP secured 48 out of 90 seats in the Haryana Assembly elections held on October 5, leading to the establishment of the new government.
