Optiemus Electronics said it plans to localize the production of key electronics components—including display modules, camera modules, and mechanics—by collaborating with global component suppliers. This move follows the Indian government’s approval of the Rs 22,919 crore Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme.
Hailing the decision, A. Gururaj, Managing Director of Optiemus Electronics, called it a game-changer for the industry. He emphasized that the initiative comes at a critical time, as India has significantly expanded its electronics manufacturing capabilities. According to Gururaj, the next phase of growth will be driven by a strong domestic component ecosystem, reducing import dependency and positioning India as a global electronics powerhouse.
"Optiemus group is committed to contribute to further the growth of Electronics sector in India by bringing manufacturing of key components such as Display Module, Camera Module and Mechanics in collaboration with leading global suppliers," he said.
Other leading Indian Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) players such as Dixon Technologies and Bhagwati Products Limited are also gearing up to form joint ventures with global value chains, leveraging the new policy to accelerate their expansion.
The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of India’s strategy to deepen its footprint in the global electronics supply chain. The scheme is expected to attract Rs 59,350 crore in investments, drive Rs 4,56,500 crore in production, and create 91,600 direct jobs, with additional indirect employment opportunities.
With a six-year tenure and a one-year gestation period, the scheme is designed to incentivize large-scale investments in component manufacturing while ensuring greater domestic value addition. It covers sub-assemblies like display and camera modules, as well as critical bare components such as high-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs, multi-layer PCBs, Li-ion cells (excluding storage and mobility), enclosures for mobile and IT hardware, and passive electronic components.
Electronics is now among India’s top three export categories, and this initiative aims to further cement the country’s role as a global manufacturing hub. With incentives linked to turnover, capital expenditure, and employment targets, the scheme will provide the necessary impetus to integrate Indian companies into global value chains, strengthen supply chains, and enhance India’s competitiveness in high-value electronics manufacturing.
