Optiemus Electronics has won a deal with Tejas Networks, a home-bred telecom equipment maker, to manufacture telecom equipment products, including 4G gear, broadband switches, and routers, from its Noida manufacturing facility.
“It is a momentous occasion as we expand our manufacturing capabilities to foray into the growing telecom equipment manufacturing industry,” A Gururaj, MD, Optiemus Electronics, said in a joint statement.
Tejas is currently providing 4G equipment through a TCS-ITI consortium to the state-run telecom operator BSNL. BSNL is deploying its 4G network in the country and intends to launch commercial 4G services in the coming months officially.
“Tejas has been at the forefront of indigenous telecom equipment design and manufacturing for a long time in India. In our continuous pursuance towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, adding Optiemus, as one of our manufacturing partners will boost the domestic manufacturing of telecom products,” V Sembian, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Tejas Networks, said in a statement.
In the telecom space, Optiemus has tie-ups with some of the local and multinational gear vendors that supply routers to Indian telcos. The company aims to enhance the domestic manufacturing capabilities of telecom equipment significantly.
In the absence of China's Huawei and ZTE, the company is looking to capitalise on the opportunity in the telecom space. It is in talks with a few Taiwanese companies looking to enter the telecom equipment space.
“The demand for routers and outdoor and indoor microwave communication systems is enormous. These companies are evaluating the Indian market for an official foray, and we are in touch with them,” the company’s chairman, Ashok Kumar Gupta, told Moneycontrol on July 15.
