This year, the timing of Eid al-Adha varies globally based on the sighting of the crescent moon.

Eid al-Adha, known as the festival of sacrifice, will be celebrated on varying dates this June, marking the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah. This festival, one of the two major Islamic celebrations alongside Eid al-Fitr, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's devotion and obedience to Allah.

Significance and celebration of Bakrid:

The observance of Eid al-Adha, also called Bakrid, involves the traditional sacrifice of an animal, a practice known as Qurbani. The meat from the sacrifice is distributed among family, friends, neighbours, and those in need, reflecting the spirit of sharing and charity that defines the festival.

The day typically begins with Muslims attending prayers at the mosque, dressed in their finest clothes, to express gratitude for their blessings. It is also a time for visiting family and friends, and for giving to charity, ensuring that those less fortunate can partake in the celebrations.

Eid al-Adha celebration date in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and others:

This year, the timing of Eid al-Adha varies globally based on the sighting of the crescent moon. Muslims in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, and other Arab states, along with those in the UK, US, and Canada, sighted the Eid-ul-Adha crescent moon on the evening of June 6, 2024. Consequently, these countries will commence Bakrid celebrations on June 16, 2024, with the Day of Arafah observed on June 15.

Eid al-Adha date in India, Pakistan and other countries:

In contrast, Muslims in India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, the Sultanate of Brunei, and other South Asian nations sighted the crescent moon on June 7, 2024. Therefore, Eid-ul-Adha in these regions will be celebrated on June 17, 2024.

About Bakrid:

Bakrid is one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar. According to Islamic tradition, Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to Allah's command. However, Allah provided a ram to sacrifice instead, symbolising divine mercy and the importance of faith.
