The Haryana government has signed a deal with a leading US firm to set up an additional plant for manufacturing air-conditioning devices in Gurgaon that will generate about 2,000 jobs and bring in investment worth 50 million dollars. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and Carrier Airconditioning and Refrigeration Limited, a unit of Connecticut-based United Technologies Corporation for setting up the additional 8-acre plant. The MoU was signed in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and the Industries and Commerce Minister, Capt.
Abhimanyu, at Hartford in Connecticut yesterday. The proposed manufacturing facility in Gurgaon will provide employment to more than 2,000 people besides bringing in investment worth USD 50 million. The delegation led by the Chief Minister had visited the Pratt and Whitney Plant of Unitech Technologies where they saw the latest engines produced by Pratt and Whitney Plant being utilised by the aerospace industry.
The delegation was told that more than 300 engines manufactured at the plant have been used in the airbuses owned by Indian companies, including Go Air, Air Vistar and Air Indigo. The new engines being developed would help reduce the sound inside the aircraft by more than 50 per cent and pare down fuel consumption by 15 per cent. Khattar also met Dannel Malloy, Governor of Connecticut.
The two agreed to develop long-term partnership between Haryana and Connecticut for sharing economic, social and cultural experiences. Malloy also shared his expertise in implementing medical care for the citizens of Connecticut and his efforts to boost jobs in the state. The governor accepted Khattar's invitation to visit Haryana early next year during which he will scout for investment opportunities in the auto and precision engineering sector.
Khattar also had one-to-one discussions with several investors during his stay in New York and Connecticut. Entrepreneur, investor and consultant on renewable energy Govind Vanjani expressed the desire to invest in standalone technologies based on solar power that will help repair low- efficiency pumps in the agri sector and enable the farmers to utiilise low-cost 24-hour power supply. Founder and CEO of Clutch Group Abhi Shah expressed his desire to open his north India office in Gurgaon within six months.
Shah has also accepted the request of the Chief Minister to start a power project in Haryana and make investment on the pattern of Gujarat, for providing modern facilities like gymnasium, smart teaching aides etc.
