Two- and three-wheeler major Bajaj Auto Ltd on May 29 reported 6% increase in net profit at Rs 2,049 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025, as higher motorcycle exports and foreign exchange gains made up for a slump in domestic demand, thus beating estimates. Its net profit was Rs 1,936 crore in the year-ago period.
The firm's revenue rose 6% to Rs 12,148 crore in Q4FY25 as compared to Rs 11,485 crore in Q4FY24, "driven by double-digit revenue growth on premium motorcycles, electric scooters and commercial vehicles and another solid volume led exports performance". Revenue missed double-digit growth due to the temporary suspension of KTM exports, it said.
The firm declared dividend of Rs 210 per share, with the total payout amounting to Rs 5,864 crore.
According to a Moneycontrol poll of eight brokerage firms, the Dominar 400 maker was anticipated to record a 3% year-on-year increase in Q4 revenue, reaching Rs 11,853 crore. Net profit was projected to rise to Rs 1,970 crore.
The firm's EBITDA rose 6% YoY to Rs 2,451 crore. "Sequentially better gross margin from favourable currency and cost reduction on the new Chetak platform, took care of operating deleverage and higher discretionary spends notably on brand investments, and jigs / fixtures among others," said Bajaj Auto in a stock exchange filing.
The firm said its surplus funds were at Rs 17,000 crore as on March 31.
"Balance sheet remains healthy as track record of strong cash generation was maintained, Rs 6,500 crore of Free Cash Flow added. Surplus funds stood at a robust Rs 17,000 crore, after investing sufficiently behind capex (Rs 700 crore) and strategic bets in subsidiary companies (Rs 3,100 crore in BACL, BAIHBV, Brazil), alongside Rs 2,200 crore returned to shareholders via dividends," said Bajaj Auto.
Bajaj, India's top auto exporter by volume, reported a 20% jump in overseas shipments. In contrast, domestic sales fell 8%.
Bajaj's two-wheeler sales grew about 3%. Its overall sales, including three-wheelers, also climbed 3%.
On May 29, Bajaj Auto's shares on NSE closed 0.6% higher at Rs 8,899 apiece.
