Pointing to Jio’s transformation into a deep-tech company, Akash Ambani said the firm is pushing ahead with innovations such as its own 5G core, proprietary UBR broadband technology, and JioAirFiber, which is now adding over a million homes a month.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, on Friday reflected on the rise of Jio and his personal journey with the company as it crossed a historic milestone of 500 million subscribers.

Speaking at the 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Akash Ambani said: “Jio is where I began my professional journey, faced challenges, learned lessons, and found my purpose. I have grown with Jio, and to see it come into its own as an independent company is both humbling and exhilarating because Jio is a part of me."

He thanked RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani for his trust, vision and guidance. "I assure you that Jio is on the path to build on your vision with renewed energy and unwavering resolve to serve India's digital future," he said.

Highlighting Jio’s massive scale, Akash noted: “Today, Jio serves over 500 million happy customers – more than the combined population of the US, the UK, and France. Very few companies in the world have the privilege of serving half a billion people. This achievement belongs not just to Jio, but to each and every individual who believed in Jio and stood by it.”

He also underlined Jio’s next phase of growth, driven by AI and enterprise solutions. “India's next digital leap, and Jio's next growth engine, will come from businesses – large and small. This is not just digitisation, it is democratisation of enterprise-grade technology.”

Pointing to Jio’s transformation into a deep-tech company, Akash said the firm is pushing ahead with innovations such as its own 5G core, proprietary UBR broadband technology, and JioAirFiber, which is now adding over a million homes a month. With AI integration across platforms, he added, “Jio is laying the foundation for India to become the world’s first AI-native digital economy.”
