Honda has taken the stage at CES 2024, the world’s premier annual tech show, to unveil its revolutionary 0 Series electric vehicle (EV) lineup. Headlining this transformative vision are the Saloon and Space-Hub concepts, providing a sneak peek into Honda's next generation of electric models.
The ‘thin’king behind the 0 Series
Honda's 0 Series philosophy is a game changer in the world of EVs. Centred around the principles of "Thin, Light, and Wise," this ethos challenges the traditional limitations associated with EVs. The goal is to create a new paradigm in aerodynamic efficiency and driving experience.
The 0 Series aims to transcend the challenges of thickness, heaviness and large battery footprints. Honda's commitment to a "thin" EV platform promises lighter and denser battery packs, leading to increased range—more than 483 km—while occupying less space.
Saloon concept
The star of the show, the Saloon concept, showcases a radical design that breaks away from conventional norms. With a wedge-shaped silhouette, pixel-style LED headlights, and a high-definition digital display, the saloon promises a driving experience that seamlessly blends innovation and functionality. Designed under the philosophy of "ultimate functional beauty," Honda assures that the production version will retain 90 percent of the concept's appearance. While gullwing doors might not make it to production, the essence of the saloon's avant-garde features remains intact.

Space-Hub concept
Accompanying the saloon is the Space-Hub concept, a people-mover that blurs the lines between SUVs and MPVs. While its production status remains unconfirmed, the Space-Hub explores flexibility-focused design elements, emphasising spaciousness and visibility. The concept aligns with Honda's "Thin, Light, and Wise" approach, aiming to maximise functionality while minimizing environmental impact.

Automated driving and affordability
The standout features of the 0 Series include an integrated automated driving system, building on the Level 3 Sensing functionality from the Legend sedan. Honda pledges to leverage advanced artificial intelligence to enhance decision-making capabilities, providing more human-like responses. Importantly, Honda commits to making its autonomous-capable EVs more affordable, allowing a larger audience the access to safety features currently limited to the likes of luxury automobiles.
The road ahead
Honda envisions a global presence for its 0 Series EVs, with launches planned across North America, Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America. The initial focus is on mid-to-large EVs, with potential evaluation of smaller models resembling the Civic and Jazz by the end of the decade. The first model of the 0 Series, based on the saloon concept, is set to launch in North America in 2026.
