Winter can be a dull and dry season, stripping your home of the joy and colour it deserves. However, there are ways to brighten up your space even in the colder months. It just needs a bit of the right intention and careful planning.
There are plenty of options to bring life to your space, including flowering evergreens, textured tree bark, colourful winter-flowering bulbs, and more. Choose the ones that suit your space and are easy to maintain. Here’s a look at the best winter plants for pots to help you.

Violas

What makes them a great option is their versatility. They can grow in borders, containers, gardens, and also as ground cover. They prefer cool, moist environments with well-drained soil and partial shade. Violas are delicate yet brighten up any space and can be used as a display ornament. Since their size is small, they can be potted and managed without hassle.

Snapdragons

No better way to add a unique dimension to your place than with snapdragons, as they come in a wide variety of colours and heights. They don’t hang down; instead, they grow tall in vibrant shades of orange, yellow, red, and more. They bloom in the cool weather and can be placed in mixed containers.

Other varieties, like Bergenia Ciliata, produce flowers even in late winter. For best results, ensure the soil isn’t waterlogged or frozen when you plant.

Calendula

To get vibrant orange or yellow blooms in the winter months, sow plant seeds directly in pots between September and November. It is perfect for the cold weather, and grows well in full sun, well-drained soil, requiring only moderate watering. It can be placed in pots in spaces that look drab.

Cyclamens

These cool-season plants thrive when temperatures drop. They are bound to brighten your home as their petals come in a variety of pinks, reds and whites.
