A study in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that scuba diving and beach visits both reduce stress and improve mood. Divers on regular medication showed the greatest mental health benefits. Researchers studied 176 divers and 70 beachgoers in Spain. Both groups felt calmer and less anxious after their activity. Interestingly, people taking regular medication for chronic or mental health conditions showed the biggest improvement after diving.
