In this day and age, more and more people are seriously thinking about their health. Everyone wants to be on a certain diet, workout 3 or 4 days a week, eat the right food, among many other things. They do all of this as part of their quest to be healthy. So much so, some people actually fret over their health. Well, if one is in tune with their body, mind and soul, then there are many signs that can tell a person if they are healthy or not. Who knows after all that you're healthier than you think you are?
Moneycontrol's team reached out to Dr Rakesh Pandit, Senior Consultant and HOD, Internal Medicine, Aakash Healthcare, to understand what are some of the signs that suggest a person is in good shape and health. "Our bodies give us cues for everything. If some health parameters are amiss, the body invariably gives us the signs. Similarly, there are signs that suggest you're healthier than you think you are," Dr Pandit shared.
Listed below are 8 signs that suggest a person is in good health:
1. You wake up feeling fresh
When you open your eyes in the morning, you shouldn’t feel like you fought a battle in your sleep. If you can get out of bed without groaning, no heavy head, no dull ache, then that’s a good sign. If you wake up feeling all refreshed and ready to start your day, it's a good news. On the contrary, if someone wakes up tired every morning, it's not a good sign. It may even suggest that some organs of the body are not functioning to their optimum capacity.
2. Your stomach behaves itself
"I have seen older family doctors begin every visit with one question: “Pet theek hai?” (Is your stomach doing okay?) They do so, because the answer to this one question can tell a lot about a person's health," Dr Pandit shared. If your bowel movements are regular, you don't have gas, acidity, and bloating issues, it suggests your system is working just fine. On the contrary, any issue with one's gut is a sign that there's something wrong with one's lifestyle. Poor gut health is usually your body’s first SOS signal.
3. You feel hungry only at meal time
A healthy body runs on a rhythm. If you don't feel like eating or are eating all day, both are not good for the body. The reason could be anything ranging from stress, late nights, or a thyroid issue. However, if you feel hungry only during meal times, then it is a positive sign.
4. Your weight is steady
Suddenly gaining or losing weight is not a healthy sign. One good sign of good health is when a person's weight stays absolutely stable.
5. Your skin and eyes look alive
Your skin and eyes should look alive and glow all the time. A dull skin or tired eyes indicate stress or other health concerns. "It is your body trying to say, 'Hey, slow down a bit,'" explained Dr Pandit.
6. You don’t fall sick all the time
Catching a cold once or twice a year is fine, but if you’re down with something every few weeks, your immunity may need support. A healthy body can handle weather changes without much drama.
7. You can move easily
You don’t need a gym membership to be fit. If you can walk briskly, climb stairs, carry your groceries, and still talk while doing it, it suggests your heart and lungs are working to their optimum capacity. Staying active is what matters and movement is medicine.
8. You feel peaceful inside
Health is not just physical, but your state of mind is important too. If you can laugh, sleep well, and not snap at small things, you are doing better than you think.
