When Shah Rukh Khan revealed that only his mother believed he would become a superstar like Dilip Kumar, it was a deeply emotional reflection on his early struggles and the faith his late mother had in him. Shah Rukh lost both his parents—Meer Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima Khan—at a young age. His sister, Shehnaz Lalarukh Khan, has been a quiet yet constant support in his life. Despite his massive success, the actor rarely opens up about his parents on public platforms. But when he does, the moments are heartfelt and poignant.
Recalling the time when he dreamt of becoming an actor, Shah Rukh once said, “Jab main acting ki soch raha tha, kissine believe nahi kiya, koi believe nahi karta tha ki main actor banunga. Meri maa hi akeli thi jo kehti thi ye Dilip Kumar banega. Baki sab log kehte the kaunsa Dilip, kaunsa Kumar, ye koi Dilip ya koi Kumar nahi banega.”
He further revealed, “Mujhe bass yahi dukh hai ki, meri maa ne na mera koi TV show dekha na film dekhi, uske pehle hi wo chal basi. My parents had passed away by the time I joined films; both of them were not alive.”
Despite this personal loss, Shah Rukh channeled his emotions into motivation. “I don’t know, for some reason, I always felt I’ll make films that are very big, so that my mom and dad can see them from heaven. Main sochta hoon ki main itna bada sitara ban jaun ki meri maa mujhe dekhe.”
It’s a sentiment that shows just how deeply rooted his journey has been in love, loss, and the unshakeable belief of one person—his mother. While many doubted his potential, her belief stood like a silent pillar behind the phenomenon he would become.
Workwise, Shah Rukh Khan had a remarkable 2023 with a hat-trick of blockbusters: Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. Now, he’s gearing up for his next big project, King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. In this action-thriller, Shah Rukh will play an assassin, and the film also stars his daughter Suhana Khan, along with Abhishek Bachchan and Munjya fame Abhay Verma.
