Actor Varun Dhawan has voiced his disappointment over the way the media handled the coverage of late actress Shefali Jariwala’s final journey, calling it insensitive and inappropriate. Although he didn’t name anyone directly, his statement came shortly after the tragic passing of Shefali Jariwala between the night of June 27 and early June 28.
According to reports, her husband Parag Tyagi and a few close associates took the actress to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai, where she was pronounced dead. Although initial reports suggested that cardiac arrest was the cause, the precise cause has not yet been established.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Varun urged the media and paparazzi to be more compassionate while covering such emotional moments. “Again one more passing of a soul being insensitively covered by the media. I just don’t understand why do u have to cover someone’s grief everyone looks so uncomfortable with this how is this benefitting anyone. My request to my friends in the media this isn’t the way someone would want their final journey covered,” he wrote, expressing the feelings of numerous people who were disturbed by the extensive circulation of tearful photos and videos.
This statement follows several widely shared videos that showed Shefali's parents and husband, actor Parag Tyagi, sobbing uncontrollably during her funeral.
On June 29, Parag was seen crying and clearly broken as she left the crematorium with Shefali's ashes. Paparazzi were criticised for their lack of tact when they posted a number of these heartbreaking moments on social media.

Following Shefali’s funeral on Saturday, Parag, overwhelmed by grief, appeared before the media with folded hands. Holding back tears, he requested privacy and asked everyone to pray for his beloved wife. “Please don’t make a joke of the situation. Please pray for my pari. I hope she is happy and in peace, wherever she is,” he said, reminding everyone of the emotional toll such public coverage can take on the bereaved.
Varun Dhawan’s message has reignited the conversation around ethical journalism and the importance of respecting personal grief and boundaries, especially in moments of profound loss.
