Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest series 'Heeramandi' which is set in the historically rich Heeramandi district of Lahore, delves deep into the cultural and aesthetic heritage of the region through its jewellery.

In the recent interaction, the designer of the jewellery revealed some insights about the jewels. The designer revealed that jewellery, designed meticulously over three years by Vinay Gupta and his team, draws heavily from Mughal and traditional designs, which are known for their intricate craftsmanship and exquisite detail.

The brand owner also revealed that his team took inspiration from various Mughal designs and made the jewellery for the actresses Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha and others.

Mughal jewellery typically features complex filigree work, embedded with precious stones like diamonds, emeralds, and rubies, reflecting the opulence of the Mughal era. These pieces often include motifs such as flowers, birds, and geometric patterns, which are painstakingly crafted to represent the height of artisan skill during the Mughal period.

Traditional jewellery also incorporates various cultural influences, including those from the Mughal era, but with distinct local variations that might use less ornate designs and different materials. The jewellery often uses silver and semi-precious stones and may include elements like glass and enamel, which are accessible yet beautiful.

The effort to recreate these historically and culturally significant pieces for 'Heeramandi' not only enhances the visual authenticity of the series but also pays homage to the artistry of South Asia's past jewellers. By incorporating these elements, Bhansali's series promises to be a feast for the eyes, showcasing a rich tapestry of history through its detailed costumes and jewellery.
