Vivek Agnihotri's film The Bengal Files has continued its momentum with a modest run at the box office after releasing on September 5. The film wrapped up its first weekend with a decent collection.
According to trade reports, The Bengal Files earned Rs 2.18 crore on Friday, Rs 3.35 crore on Saturday, and Rs 4.60 crore on Sunday gross in India.
Despite having a slow start, The Bengal Files registered a +111% growth, collecting over Rs 10.13 crore gross in three days over the weekend in India.
Meanwhile, the film also earned a decent collection in the overseas market and earned Rs 1.50 crore.
The theatre occupancy quickly increased from 15–20% on Friday to 60–70% on Sunday evening performances across theatres. Several theatres increased the number of shows starting on Monday after major metro areas like Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai reported packed evening performances.
The release of the movie was marred by controversy, particularly in West Bengal. The Bengal Files trailer was allegedly not shown during the Kolkata premiere. Additionally, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri claimed that theatre owners were allegedly under pressure not to show the film in the state.
Despite no official censor objections, producer Pallavi Joshi took the matter to the next level by writing an open letter to the President of India, claiming an "unofficial ban."
The Bengal Files features an ensemble cast including Mithun Chakraborty, supported by Anupam Kher and producer-actor Pallavi Joshi. Darshan Kumar and Simrat Kaur also star in the key roles.
