The highly anticipated sequel to Stree (2018) directed by Amar Kaushik, has been a massive success, reuniting the original star cast of Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana. On Sunday, Maddock Films proudly announced that Stree 2 has grossed over Rs 500 crore worldwide in just 10 days.
Their celebratory caption read, "Stree 2 shatters records with a LEGENDARY and HIGHEST ever 2nd Saturday in history! Thank you to everyone for your continued love and support. Book your tickets now..."
Shraddha Kapoor also took to Instagram to share the exciting news, posting a film poster highlighting the Rs 505 crore worldwide collection mark. The poster revealed that Stree 2 had grossed Rs 505 crore globally, with an impressive Rs 426 crore from India and Rs 78.5 crore from overseas markets. According to the filmmakers, Stree 2 added another Rs 33 crore nett to its box office collection on its 10th day, bringing its India nett total to Rs 361 crore.
Fans have once again fallen in love with the characters of Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) and Jana (Abhishek Banerjee), alongside the lead cast of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in Stree 2. When asked about reprising his role as Bittu and the immense love he's received, Aparshakti shared with Moneycontrol, “It's amazing to be back as Bittu, and it's even more amazing to see the love and acceptance we have gotten from the audience. I think, ye toh bahut kam dafa hota hai ki aapne itni humble beginnings ki hon film ko lekar aur ye cheezein mil gayi hon US film ko. The first one (Stree) was made at a very, very, very small, simple budget. That also did well, but these are unprecedented numbers.”
Discussing the unexpected success of the sequel with Moneycontrol, especially given the tough competition from Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa at the box office, Aparshakti added, "Yeh, expect toh nahi kiya tha ki aisa hoga, but having said that, I think, the love and acceptance we got as Bittu and Jana in the first one only got multiplied. And I think some comedy scenes have become such hits that people come and have already started stopping me, you know, on the football field, airport, telling me about how they loved the lori (lullaby) scene ‘Warm Chitti’. People are asking to sing it for them. My school friend called me, and he also praised that scene of me singing the lullaby. Warm Chitti.”
While the original Stree centered around a female ghost wronged in her mortal life, the sequel introduces a new antagonist, Sarkata, a headless villain with ties to the titular character. Stree 2 explores Sarkata's terrifying reign as he abducts women with independent voices, culminating in a powerful scene where he destroys the statue of Stree, the protector of Chanderi, to assert his dominance.

In a recent interview with PTI, director Amar Kaushik shared his joy and exhaustion over the film's unexpected success. "We had a party and enjoyed too much. We were confident that the film was good but we didn't expect that it would get these big numbers... I’m sleep deprived. I barely slept, so first I’ll sleep and then I’ll start thinking of my next movie."
