Veteran actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan was recently sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, marking a significant political milestone in his public life.

The swearing-in ceremony, held during the Monsoon Session on July 25, saw the legendary actor take his oath in Tamil — a proud and symbolic gesture that resonated across the House.

Among those moved by the moment was his daughter, actress and musician Shruti Haasan, who flew to the national capital to support her father. She took to social media shortly after the ceremony to share her emotions, posting a heartfelt tribute to Kamal Haasan.

Sharing a photograph of the duo, Shruti wrote on her Instagram Story, "Love you and proud of you Appa. Always." She followed this with a longer note in her post, saying, "My dearest Appa, today marks the journey of your steps into a brave new world. Watching you take your oath in the Rajya Sabha with your signature voice echoing through the chambers with strength and gravitas was a moment forever etched in my mind. As always, I wish for you to be happy and achieve all you hope to achieve."

She ended the caption with folded hands, a heart, and a bad omen emoji, and signed off affectionately: "Love always. always, always."

Kamal Haasan was elected unopposed to the Upper House in June as part of the DMK-led alliance’s seat-sharing deal. His nomination to the Rajya Sabha was part of a broader political strategy ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where MNM lent its support to the ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to the media before his swearing-in, Kamal said, “I am proud and honoured. I’m going to swear in and register my name. As an Indian, I will do my duty.” After the oath, he was seen exchanging greetings with Deputy Rajya Sabha Chairman Harivansh.

On the film front, Kamal was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life and will next appear in Indian 3 later this year. He is also expected to return with an extended role in the sequel to Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, where he plays the primary antagonist.
