The recent arrest of Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko in a drug-related case has garnered a lot of attention, and now his brother Joe John Chacko has spoken out — sarcastically. Joe cheekily addressed claims that Shine had transacted ₹20,000 with a well-known drug dealer in Kochi during a media appearance on Saturday.
“My brother won't even give me ₹5,000 — how's he going to hand over money to someone else?” Joe remarked with a laugh, clearly poking fun at the circulating claims.
When asked about reports suggesting that Shine had been taken to a de-addiction centre, Joe claimed ignorance about such developments. “Maybe he was taken to a de-addiction centre. You people are the ones saying all this. I came because I heard he might get bail, again, something you all were suggesting. I don't know anything about a de-addiction centre. I wasn't even there at the time,” he told reporters.
Joe also candidly admitted to having his own experience with a rehab facility. “I've been taken to one before, though. I stayed for two weeks at a centre in Palakkad called Manomithra — you can go ask them. Haven't any of you ever been to a de-addiction centre? I was taken to a mental health facility,” he added, repeating his earlier jest about Shine’s alleged ₹20,000 handover: “For the record, my brother won't even give me ₹5,000 — how's he going to hand over money to someone else?”
Glow After being taken into custody on Saturday, Tom Chacko was freed on station bail that same day. He has allegedly acknowledged using methamphetamine and cannabis, and he has accused a number of film industry assistants of producing drugs. Investigations are still underway, and the police have called him back to appear on Monday.
The case follows days after Vincy Aloshious, a National Award-winning actress, accused a co-star of using drugs on set without naming the actor. She later retracted her complaint, though, claiming that there had been a breach of trust and that she had not been given anonymity.
