Panjab University student stabbed to death during a violent clash at a concert, 3 injured

A musical concert recently turned into a nightmare for a 22-year-old student after unidentified attackers stabbed him. The incident took place during a concert at Panjab University’s Scitron Fest on March 29.

The student groups were involved in a quarrel, which soon turned into violence. Meanwhile, a second-year computer science student died from his injuries after a violent incident at a university fest. Three others were also injured. The incident happened while Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma was performing on stage.

The student who died was identified as Aditya Thakur from Himachal Pradesh. Two of the injured students are Aman and Aryan. Aman was stabbed near his shoulder, and Aryan was badly hurt on his thigh. The third injured student's name is not known yet.

A huge crowd of students attended a music fest at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology. The event was organized by a group of students, including one who had been kicked out from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

As the festival was concluding, two groups of students started arguing, which quickly turned into violence. They threw stones and stabbed each other. Many students were scared and ran away. The music was so loud that nobody noticed the fight until a badly hurt student, Aditya Thakur, fell to the ground. He later died from his injuries.

Police were present at the event, but the attackers took advantage of the chaos and escaped before anyone could be arrested. The injured students were quickly taken to a nearby hospital and reportedly are now out of danger.

The Chandigarh administration notably allowed the concert to happen at Panjab University last Friday, even though the police had expressed concerns about managing the crowd and campus security. Interestingly, the police denied permission for another concert by Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan on March 25, citing limited space near the University Business School.

The recent incident marked the second death on the campus in four months. Previously, a visitor in boys' hostel number 7 died of a drug overdose on November 19, 2024.
