The acclaimed Drishyam series' creator, veteran filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, has roturned with another compelling tale, Mirage.
This edge-of-the-seat crime thriller, starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali, released in cinemas on 19 September and drew a mixed response from critics and moviegoers alike.
Co-written by Jeethu Joseph and Srinivasan Abrol, Mirage is based on a story by Aparna R. Tarakad and produced under the banners of Naad Studios and E4 Experiments, in collaboration with Seven 1 Seven Productions and Bedtime Stories.
The film also stars Hakim Shahjahan, Hannah Reji Koshy, Saravanan, Sampath Raj, and Deepak Parambol, each contributing to the film’s tense, emotionally layered atmosphere.
For those who didn’t manage to catch it on the big screen, there’s good news: the film is all set to make its digital debut on SonyLIV on 20 October.
Announcing the premiere, SonyLIV unveiled a brand-new trailer on social media with the caption, “Every story hides a secret. This one hides many. #Mirage streaming from Oct 20th only on Sony LIV.” The streaming platform will offer the film in seven languages — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, and Bengali — making it accessible to audiences across India.
The trailer begins with a woman reflecting on a spooky trip. The focus then shifts to Ashwin Kumar (Asif Ali), an investigative journalist who becomes entangled in a maze of unspoken facts about Kiran and his fiancée Abhirami (Aparna Balamurali).
Abhirami starts to suspect that there is something much darker lurking beneath the surface as Ashwin continues to probe. What comes next is a slow-burning, tense examination of morality, suspicion, and the frailty of truth—a storytelling technique that has come to define Jeethu Joseph.
Jeethu Joseph doesn't appear to be slowing down as Mirage prepares for its over-the-top launch. He is currently balancing a number of ambitious projects, such as the highly anticipated Drishyam 3, which will also have a Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn, and Ram: Part 1, which stars Mohanlal.
In addition, he is working on Valathu Vashathe Kallan, which stars Biju Menon and Joju George, solidifying his reputation as one of India's most reliable and captivating storytellers.
