Nandamuri Balakrishna and Ajith Kumar are honored with the most prestigious awards

Telugu superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna and Tamil actor Ajith Kumar received their Padma Awards from President Droupadi Murmu on Monday, April 28. The event was held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The event honoured the notable names from the entertainment industry along with various prominent personalities. The award ceremony was streamed live on YouTube.

Ajith and Nandamuri received their Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, by the Union government.

Veteran actor Balakrishna wore traditional attire to receive the honour. He sported a kurta paired with a dhoti.

Meanwhile, Ajith looked dapper in a black pant-suit. He bowed in honour before receiving the award from the President. Ajith’s wife and their two children can be seen cheering from the audience.

Soon after the award was announced, Ajith took to his X account to express his gratitude. He tweeted, “I am deeply humbled and honoured to receive the esteemed Padma Award by the President of India. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, for this prestigious honour.”

The actor continued, “It is a privilege to be recognised at such a level and I am truly grateful for this generous acknowledgement of my contributions to our nation."

He also expressed that this award was not only a personal achievement but a reflection of collective efforts. “This recognition is not just a personal accolade but a testament to the collective efforts and support of many,” he continued.

He added, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the film industry, including my distinguished seniors, various peers, and untold others. Your inspiration, collaboration, and support have been instrumental in my journey, including the pursuit of my passion in other areas as well."

The Padma awards, presented in various fields such as public affairs, science, social work, medicine, literature, sports, and civil services, are announced every year around Republic Day.
