Why Quentin Tarantino’s Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise starrer got shelved

‘The Movie Critic’ was supposed to be Tarantino’s swan song but it ended before it could even spread its wings. Did Tarantino get scared of how the critics will react to his last film? He calls himself a better critic than, well, actual critics after his 2009 film ‘Inglorious Basterds’ did not do too well at Cannes.

The Tarantino train of blockbusters after blockbusters is going to come to an end after his tenth and final movie. The fans of the ’Pulp Fiction (1994)’ director have been eagerly waiting for even a crumb of news regarding the director’s final film.

Much to our surprise, Tarantino revealed that he was planning to make a film called ‘The Movie Critic’. He wanted Brad Pitt to reprise his role of Cliff Booth from Tarantino’s previous hit film, ‘Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood (2019)’. Cliff Booth is a very well liked character in the Tarantino fandom and everyone was stoked after hearing this news.

However, this was not the best news surrounding the director’s secretive final film. There were talks about action megastar Tom Cruise joining Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt. This would have marked the first collaboration between Cruise and Tarantino. Cinephiles obviously jumped with happiness when they first heard this news. But alas, happiness doesn’t last forever.

More details have emerged about ‘The Movie Critic’ since Tarantino decided to abandon the project.

The details come from The Hollywood Reporter. Although, no studio was confirmed to work on the project publicly, Sony Pictures was “firmly on board” to team up with ‘Inglorious Basterds (2009)’ director following their mega-hit film, ‘Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood’. Reportedly, the last minute cancellation of this film idea hasn’t ruined Tarantino’s relationship with Sony and they are  still keen on working with him for his final project.

‘The Movie Critic’ underwent many rewrites with Tarantino planning on making it a “goodbye metaverse” by weaving in characters from all of his previous films.

Tarantino is facing a lot of creative pressure as to what his last film should be. He wants to leave Hollywood on a high note. It is unclear what Tarantino is planning now. Sources allege that he has found more exciting ideas thus he abandoned ship on ‘The Movie Critic’.
