Ajay Devgn is returning to the big screens with the release of 'Maidaan' today (April 9). The actor is playing the role of a football coach. The actor's portrayal of Syed Abdul Rahim is being appreciated by critics and fans alike. Ajay Devgn is known for doing both intense and fun roles. The actor very rarely fails to impress his audience. Before you watch 'Maidaan' today or over the weekend, here's a list of Top 10 movies that you can see again and yes, it does feature 'Omkara' and 'Gangajal'. Read On....

1. Omkara

On the top of our list is 'Omkara', which was the Hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy 'Othello'. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Ajay Devgn played the titular role of Omkara, who is a goon but a man with principles. He falls in love with a woman of another caste but a conspiracy by his lieutenant leads him to suspect his newly wedded wife (played by Kareena Kapoor) of infidelity. And he murders her on their wedding night only to realise his mistake later. Ajay Devgn as the dreaded goon yet a man of principles in 'Omkara' (2006) was loved by all. The movie also bagged three National Awards that year.

2. 'Gangaajal'

Ajay played the role of an IPS officer Amit Kumar who takes on the corrupt MLAs in his area. Directed by Prakash Jha, the movie also went on to win the National Award for Best Film. Ajay Devgn was appreciated for his role in 'Gangaajal' of a tough SP who also motivates and leads a dysfunctional corrupt police force.

3. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Who can forget the shy Vanraj played by young Ajay Devgn from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' in 1999. Ajay's role of a failed lawyer Vanraj won many hearts as he treads on a path to reunite his beautiful wife (Aishwarya Rai) with her lover. The story of love and sacrifice won him many accolades. Ajay also went on to win Best Actor Filmfare for his role.

4 & 5. Singham and Singham Again

This one from the cop verse is 'Singham' - whenever Ajay Devgn dons the khaki onscreen, he sets its on fire. It was his return to the action genre and audiences loved him as Bajirao Singham in 'Singham' and 'Singham Again'. His one liner "Aata Majhi Satakli" became a rage. He is going to be seen as Singham yet again this year in the movie directed by Rohit Shetty.

6. Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai

Ajay Devgn played the role of a don named Sultan Mirza in 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai', which was loosely based on the life of Haji Mastan. Ajay Devgn captured the hearts of the audience with his dialogue delivery and suave style.

7 & 8. Drishyam - Drishyam 2

Ajay Devgn played the role of a family man Vijay Salgaonkar in 'Drishyam' and 'Drishyam 2', who is fiercely protective of his family. Ajay's performance won him many accolades and he was praised for his performance of a father who will go to any length to protect his family.

9. Golmaal series

With 'Golmaal', Ajay Devgn also tried his hand at comedy and was successful in that too. He is loved as Gopal aka Gopu in the series. Critics had also termed the movie as full paisa vasool.

10. Zakhm

Released in 1998, Ajay Devgn starrer 'Zakhm' won him a National Award for Best Actor. The movie was based on the life of Mahesh Bhatt's mother Shirin Mohammad Ali, while his daughter Pooja Bhatt essayed her role in this film, Ajay played their son in the movie.

11. The Legend of Bhagat Singh

It was released in 2002 where Ajay Devgn played the titular role of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in the movie 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh'. His role earned him another National Award for Best Actor. Ajay Devgn has won four National Awards till date.

12. Company

Ram Gopal Varma's 'Company' was yet another movie based on the underworld. Ajay Devgn played the dreaded Malik, the movie's story revolved around two friends who build the Company but a misunderstanding leads to a gangwar. Ajay Devgn has always impressed his fans with his choice of roles and his acting chops.
