Legendary actor Kamal Haasan and acclaimed director Shankar have teamed up once more for 'Indian 2,' the much-awaited follow-up to their 1996 vigilante classic. Premiering last Friday, the movie has sparked diverse reactions but achieved remarkable success at the box office over its debut weekend.
Recent updates indicate that 'Indian 2' has amassed over Rs 100 crores within its first three days worldwide, setting a new record as the fastest Tamil film to reach this milestone in 2024. However, the film's earnings saw a notable decline on Monday, leaving its future status as a blockbuster uncertain. This development has stirred up considerable online chatter today. Addressing the mixed feedback, the filmmakers have decided to shorten the movie by 20 minutes.
The fourth day total earnings of 'Indian 2' stand at Rs 62.3 crore nett in India.
'Indian 2,' helmed by Shankar, brings back the iconic character Senapathy, once again portrayed by Kamal Haasan, continuing the saga started in the 1996 hit 'Indian.' This much-anticipated sequel enters a competitive market, particularly facing off against Sudha Kongara’s 'Sarfira.' 'Sarfira,' a Hindi adaptation of Kongara's critically acclaimed Tamil film 'Soorarai Pottru,' features Bollywood star Akshay Kumar in the lead role.
Though 'Sarfira' garnered favourable critiques, it encountered a sluggish start at the box office, debuting with a modest collection of Rs 2.5 crore.
The star-studded cast of 'Indian 2' includes Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, Bobby Simha, SJ Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Nedumudi Venu, Manobala, Jegan, Vivek, and Samuthirakani. The film's technical team boasts composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographers Ravi Varman and R. Rathnavelu, and editor A. Sreekar Prasad.
