In 1996, 'Indian' burst onto screens, leaving an indelible mark on audiences. Fast forward 28 years to the release of 'Indian 2', and the reception couldn't be more different. Despite Kamal Haasan's star power, the sequel has been met with harsh criticism and lukewarm audience feedback. Nevertheless, it seems Haasan's charisma alone keeps the film afloat in theatres, with a reported total collection of Rs 42.30 crore by the end of its second day.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Indian 2' grossed Rs 16.7 crore on Saturday. The Tamil version contributed Rs 13 crore, while the Hindi release added Rs 1.2 crore to its tally. The Telugu audience contributed Rs 2.5 crore to the overall earnings. Opening day figures stood at Rs 25.6 crore, though subsequent days saw declines in Tamil and Telugu markets, with Hindi receipts remaining stable.

In contrast, 'Sarfira', starring Akshay Kumar, garnered positive reviews but struggled at the box office, managing less than Rs 7 crore on its second day. Despite ensemble performances by Rakul Preet Singh and Siddharth, 'Indian 2' fails to recreate the magic of Shankar's original 'Indian'. Kamal Haasan reprises his iconic role of Senapathy in this sequel, yet the film grapples with heightened expectations and mixed critical reception.
