Just weeks after his drunk driving scandal made headlines, South Korean comedian Lee Jin-ho's girlfriend was discovered dead in a heartbreaking turn of events.

Many have been shocked by the tragic news, particularly since it was revealed so soon after the couple inadvertently found themselves embroiled in a highly public and emotionally charged situation.

As reported by MK Sports, the woman—identified only as “A”—was discovered in her apartment by an acquaintance on the morning of 5 October.

The police were immediately informed, and the Incheon Bupyeong Police Station later confirmed her passing on 10 October. While investigations are ongoing, authorities have not yet disclosed an official cause of death, only stating that they are carefully examining all possible factors surrounding the case.

Lee Jin-ho, 39, was booked for driving under the influence on 24 September, after he reportedly drove from Incheon to Yangpyeong while intoxicated.

As per Times of India, his blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.11%—enough to trigger a cancellation of his driving licence. Public outrage against the comedian increased as a result of the incident, which received extensive media coverage.

What made matters even more intense was a report that surfaced shortly after, claiming that it was his girlfriend who had informed the police about his drunk driving. Although the police never officially confirmed this, the rumour spread quickly, placing a heavy emotional toll on the woman.

According to those close to her, she had been dealing with a great deal of psychological stress in the days after the incident. Even though her name hasn't been made public yet, she felt vulnerable and overpowered by the flurry of media coverage and internet rumours.

Police are now looking into whether her death is in any way linked to the events surrounding the DUI case. A spokesperson said, “There is currently no confirmed evidence of criminal activity,” adding, “We cannot disclose further details out of consideration for the bereaved family’s wishes.”
