Karan Johar talks about his weight loss

Karan Johar's recent physical transformation has generated a lot of conversation, with many wondering if the director used Ozempic, a drug approved for Type 2 diabetes that has drawn notice for its weight loss side effects.

But in an open discussion with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Karan corrected the record, stating that no drugs had anything to do with his metamorphosis.

“I have always been battling the bulge," Karan admitted, revealing the extensive efforts he has made over the years.

“I’ve tried thousands of diets, five hundred kinds of workouts, every type you can imagine. Every diet, every workout routine, I’ve tried it all. I’ve been combating this for years." His struggle with weight has been a long one, but it wasn’t until he underwent blood tests that he discovered a crucial underlying factor. “It was only recently, after years, when I got my blood work done that I found out I had certain thyroid issues and other problems that I needed to fix and I’ve been working on correcting them."

Addressing the persistent rumours about him using weight-loss drugs like Ozempic or Mounjaro, Karan grew visibly frustrated. “Now people ask me, ‘Are you on Mounjaro? Are you on Ozempic?’ I’m tired of these comments. People don’t know my truth. You don’t know." He made it clear that his journey was rooted in personal health, not shortcuts.

Karan’s transformation, he shared, has been about improving his overall wellness. “Long story short, I know that I am very healthy. I’ve never felt lighter, never felt better. I’ve never, ever felt more confident in my own skin and that gives me nothing but joy." This newfound confidence, however, didn’t come without years of struggle with body image issues. “After 52 years, I finally feel confident. Otherwise, I do suffer from body dysmorphia. It’s when you feel ashamed of your own body. When you feel awkward without clothes on. I go through that even now. I can’t even look at myself in the mirror," he admitted, shedding light on the personal challenges he continues to face despite his transformation.

Karan’s openness about his struggles highlights the importance of self-acceptance and the emotional journey behind physical change, offering a candid glimpse into his path to well-being.
