Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor recently made headlines by speaking fluent Tamil in public for the first time, during a promotional event for her upcoming film Devara in Chennai.

The event, which took place on (September 17) Tuesday evening, saw Janhvi joining co-star Jr NTR and music composer Anirudh Ravichander for a press conference.

As soon as the actress addressed the media in Tamil, she won the hearts of fans and the audience, especially with her heartfelt gratitude toward her late mother, Sridevi's connection to Chennai.

Janhvi began by expressing her deep affection for the city, saying, "Chennai is very special to me. My best memories with my mom (Sridevi) are from Chennai. The love you’ve showered her is the reason me and my family are here. I will always be indebted to you for that. I hope you show me the same love."

Jr NTR was visibly impressed by Janhvi’s fluency and effort to speak in Tamil. She went on to add, “I promise I will work very, very hard for it. Devara is very special to me. I really hope, from the bottom of my heart that you enjoy what we made.”

The host at the event playfully mentioned the hope of seeing Janhvi in a Tamil film soon, to which the actress responded, "I hope so."

Social media users were quick to praise her efforts. One fan wrote, "So adorable Appreciate her efforts to speak in Tamil as a small token of gratitude to her mom’s land and people." Another fan added, "She deserves a straight Tamil film Her fluency in Tamil is impressive."

For those unaware, Janhvi’s mother, Sridevi, had deep roots in Chennai, where she spent much of her early life and acted in several Tamil films before transitioning to Bollywood.

Despite moving to Mumbai, Sridevi kept a home in Chennai, and Janhvi, along with her family, frequently visits.

On the work front, Devara: Part 1 marks Janhvi's debut in Telugu cinema, alongside Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan, and is set to release on September 27.
