In a recent series of candid interviews, actor Indraneil Sengupta opened up about his failed marriage with actress Barkha Bisht, addressing allegations of infidelity and reflecting on their 14-year-long relationship. The couple, who tied the knot in 2008 after meeting on the sets of Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam, officially separated in 2022. They share a daughter, Meira, born in 2011.

The controversy recently resurfaced after Barkha Bisht, in an interview with Siddharth Kanan, accused Indraneil of cheating on her and walking out of their marriage without a proper explanation. She revealed that despite knowing about his alleged affair, she still made an effort to salvage the marriage for two years.

“I was among those women who would say that I would walk out of a marriage if I was cheated on, but when it actually happens to you, you realise it is easier said than done,” she confessed. “I have no shame in saying that I would have forgiven Indraneil and I even tried to save my marriage for two years after that.”

Barkha also spoke about confronting Indraneil regarding rumours of an affair with Bengali actress Ishaa Saha. “His answer wasn’t satisfying,” she said. “Indraneil made a choice—maybe he can justify it now. He can give you a hundred reasons of why this marriage broke, but his actions are not on me. He has to justify them.”

While Barkha chose to speak about the emotional struggle and betrayal she faced, Indraneil took a more introspective and philosophical approach in his conversation with Sanghmitra Hitaishi. He did not deny the separation but offered a different perspective on their journey together, choosing not to label their marriage a failure.

“My marriage has worked for 13 years. It didn’t go forever,” he said, adding, “Although the incident is very negative, it has changed me in a lot of positive ways in terms of my personality development.”

Indraneil expressed that while many perceive separation as failure, he views their relationship as something that had its course. “Why is the idea of a relationship ‘forever’? It is good if it is forever. There have been good moments, very good moments, and also bad moments,” he said.

He further emphasized that he and Barkha were different individuals from the very beginning, which became more evident over time. “Two people have had their individual journeys, which is also a together journey, and no one is wrong. Sometimes personalities change. We were different people from day one. As the years have passed, we have become more of ourselves.”

Rejecting the notion of failure, he added, “I don’t agree to the word failure. Nothing has failed. People will give the example of past generations. I have a say, which people may not like. In those days, most relationships worked due to dependency.”
