Amitabh Bachchan found himself at the center of an unusual online debate this Diwali. A viral video circulating on social media showed Big B’s staff member taking home Diwali gift; that drew both praise and criticism from netizens.

The clip, shared by a content creator, features visuals from outside Amitabh Bachchan’s Juhu residence. The creator can be heard saying, “Yeh mithai baata ja raha hai. Yeh Amitabh Bachchan ka ghar hai (These sweets are being distributed. This is Amitabh Bachchan’s house).”

In the same video, the creator points at an alleged staff member who is heard confirming that the team was also given cash along with the sweets. The person says, “Paise bhi diye (Money was also given).”* The creator’s caption further revealed, *“Bollywood’s biggest actor, Amitabh Bachchan, gave Rs 10,000 cash and a box of sweets to his house staff and security personnel.”

While many hailed the gesture as a reflection of Big B’s generosity and his consistent tradition of acknowledging his employees during festivals, the amount mentioned triggered a flurry of mixed reactions online.

Some users praised the veteran actor, calling him “down-to-earth” and “grateful to those who support him daily.” One fan wrote, “At least he thought of his staff. Most people don’t even do that.”

However, others found the sum underwhelming given Big B’s stature and immense wealth. A social media user quipped, “Inse jyada to Jethalal de deta hai,” referring humorously to the fictional character from the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Another person commented, “Rs 10,000 isn’t much for someone of his level. They work 24x7 — they deserve more.”

Some even compared it to what employers in other sectors reportedly give as festive bonuses, claiming that “most people pay double salaries or Rs 20,000–25,000 during Diwali.”

Many fans defended the megastar and pointed out that generosity should not be measured purely in money. As one user aptly summed it up, “It’s the thought that counts. Big B still celebrates with his staff like family — that’s more than most do.”
