Pakistani actor Danish Taimoor has issued a public apology following the backlash over his comments on polygamy. His remarks, which went viral on social media, sparked controversy, leading him to release a video clarifying his stance. In the video, Taimoor expressed that his words were misinterpreted and taken out of context.
The Controversial Statement
During a recent appearance on a national television show, Danish Taimoor stated that he had been given the right to marry four times according to his faith. This remark immediately drew criticism, with many questioning whether he was endorsing polygamy or considering multiple marriages himself.
In his defense, Taimoor later clarified that while he acknowledged his religious right to have four wives, he had no intention of doing so. He stated:
“Mujhe ijaazat hai 4 shaadiyon ki, main kar nahi raha hoon, woh alag baat hai.”
(I have permission for four marriages, but that doesn’t mean I am going to do it, that’s a different matter.)
The Apology Video
After receiving heavy criticism, Danish Taimoor took to Instagram to issue an apology. In the video, he reassured his fans and critics that he never meant to disrespect his wife, Ayeza Khan, or promote polygamy.
“Mai janta hu aap log mujhse thoda sa naaraz hai. Uss din joh bhi incident hua hai, kuch logo ko lagta hai ki shayad maine disrespect kiya hai apni biwi ko, toh aisa hargiz nahi hai. Meri koi aisi intention nahi thi, mai bohot pyaar karta hu usse.”
(I know you guys are upset with me. I understand that people feel I have disrespected my wife after the incident a few days back. I want to assure you all that this is not the case. I never intended it that way. I love my wife a lot.)
“Shayad alfaaz ka chunav joh hai woh shayad sahi nahi hua hai.”
(I probably didn’t pick the right words to express my feelings.)
His Stand on Marriage
In the video, Danish Taimoor emphasized that he is deeply in love with his wife and is happy in his marriage. He clarified that while he made a factual statement about polygamy being permissible in his faith, it was never meant as a declaration of intent.
“Main dil se sorry kehta hu.”
(I apologize from the bottom of my heart.)
Taimoor’s wife, Ayeza Khan, was seen in the background during his public apology, nodding in agreement, which seemed to reassure their fans that their relationship remains strong.
18 Years of a Controversy-Free Career
Danish Taimoor also highlighted his 18-year career in the entertainment industry, pointing out that he has never been involved in any controversies before. He urged people to not take his statement in a literal sense and requested them to end the matter.
“It’s been almost 18 years now. Kabhi zindagi mai koi controversy bani nahi hai aur mai chahunga iss baat ko hum yahi khatam kare kyuki jab meri niyat aur mera dil hi nahi hai aisa toh baat ko badane ka koi fayda nahi hai.”
(There has not been any controversy in my name for around 18 years. I would want this issue to end right here, right now. If my intention and my heart are pure, what’s the point of escalating the issue any further?)
Public Reaction
Despite his apology, reactions remain divided. While some fans have accepted his explanation and moved on, others continue to question the intent behind his original statement. The debate on polygamy remains a sensitive issue, and Taimoor’s remarks have inadvertently reignited discussions around it in Pakistan.
