Late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, has accused his third wife, Priya Sachdev, of being responsible for destroying his marriage with Karisma Kapoor. Speaking to Vicky Lalwani, Mandhira shared insights into the troubled marriage and the family’s disapproval of Sunjay’s relationship with Priya.
Mandhira alleged that Priya entered Sunjay’s life when he was still married to Karisma. She disrupted their efforts to save the marriage. “For another woman to not care about a woman who’s just had a child is in bad taste. To come and disrupt the family is in bad taste... You don’t break up a happy marriage—or even a marriage that’s trying to work on keeping a family together. When you’ve just had another child, you step aside or encourage the man to go back and make it work. You don’t destroy a marriage. And Lolo did not deserve that,” she said, adding that Karisma had been working very hard to make the marriage work.
She further revealed that their family, particularly their late father Surinder Kapur, was completely against Sunjay’s relationship with Priya. “Dad was totally against Priya. He said, ‘He can never marry her. I don’t ever want to see her face. And they can’t have children.’ Nobody in this family stood by them getting married. Lolo had the children; she had everything. They should have made it work. She should have been allowed to have her husband,” Mandhira said.
Mandhira also mentioned that apart from their mother Rani Kapur, the rest of the family did not attend Sunjay and Priya’s 2017 New York wedding.
Sunjay Kapur, who was the Chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12 after reportedly suffering a heart attack during a polo match in London. His final rites took place at the Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in New Delhi on June 19.

Sunjay and Karisma Kapoor married in 2003 and welcomed two children — Samaira (2005) and Kiaan (2011). The couple separated in 2014, and their divorce was finalised in 2016. Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son, Azarias.
Currently, a legal dispute over Sunjay’s Rs 30,000 crore estate is ongoing. In August, Priya presented a document to the Delhi High Court claiming it was his will. This claim was challenged by Karisma’s children and Rani Kapur. On September 10, the court ordered Priya to submit a detailed list of Sunjay’s assets.
