A video by a chartered accountant from India currently working in the Netherlands, has gone viral for offering a glimpse into European work culture — and the sharp contrast it draws with Indian office life. The 13-second clip has reignited the long-running debate on work-life balance, productivity, and the cultural expectations that shape office life in different parts of the world.

In the video, CA Jyoti Saini shows her office at 5.10pm — ten minutes after closing time — and pans across a completely empty workspace. The lights are off, desks are deserted, and not a single colleague is in sight.

“It’s 5.10 pm, and look at my office… there’s not a single person in the office,” she says in the clip.

But what truly caught the internet’s attention was the caption she posted with the video:
“Bring just one Indian manager here, and things will be different.”

The video was later shared on X by Dinesh Wadera, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), who called the caption “witty” and said it had sparked a lively conversation about global work culture.

‘Europeans work 8 hours. Indians work 4 in 8’

The post triggered a flood of reactions online, with many praising the discipline and boundaries maintained in European workplaces.

“The best part is that after office hours, if your boss or client needs to talk, they first text to schedule a call,” wrote @ankitkall. “Europeans, at least where I work, hardly get distracted during work hours. Their 8 hours is 8 hours. Our 8 hours is hardly 4,” said @ChanceofDice.

Others pointed to structural issues in Indian offices.

“She is working in a great office that lets them leave after work is done. In India, we have plenty of work and minimal manpower,” wrote @realth_sandeep. “Even if finished, we sometimes don’t want to go home to avoid chikchik.”
