Yamini Malhotra, a popular name in the entertainment world and a contestant in Bigg Boss 18, recently shared her harrowing experiences of finding a home on rent in Mumbai. Known for her role in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin and her vibrant persona on television, Yamini took to Instagram to voice her frustration. Her heartfelt post sheds light on the discriminatory practices she faced during her housing search, highlighting the deeply ingrained biases in society.

In her post, Yamini revealed, “I have been asked questions like, ‘Are you Hindu or Muslim?’ or ‘Gujarati or Marwadi?’ And as soon as people hear I am an actor, they outright refuse.” Her words struck a chord with many as she detailed the hurdles actors face while trying to secure housing in a city often celebrated as the “City of Dreams.”

The actor’s struggles underscore the societal stigma associated with the entertainment industry. “Does being an actor make me less deserving of a home? It’s shocking how these questions still exist in 2025,” she wrote, reflecting on the outdated stereotypes that persist despite Mumbai’s cosmopolitan reputation. For Yamini, these questions were not only invasive but also a painful reminder of the prejudices that still plague the housing sector.

Yamini highlighted how landlords and brokers seemed quick to judge her profession, which led to repeated refusals. “As much as I love Mumbai, finding a home here has been a tough journey,” she admitted. Her post also criticized the conditional nature of opportunities in the city. “Can we really call this the city of dreams if dreams come with conditions?” she asked, prompting her followers to question the irony of Mumbai’s celebrated inclusivity.

Her experiences resonate with countless others who face similar discrimination, especially those from certain professions or backgrounds. Yamini’s candid post drew attention to a broader societal issue: the urgent need to eradicate stereotypes and ensure equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of profession, religion, or ethnicity.
